Match Thread – Spurs Target Three From Three With Watford Up Next

|

With an aggregate victory over Pacos de Ferreira in last night’s Europa Conference League clash, it turns Nuno Espirito Santo’s start to life at Tottenham Hotspur from good, to quite impressive.

Three wins from four as we head towards September, is no bad return, especially given the confusion and issues we have to deal with – although thankfully the future of Harry Kane is now off the table until at least next summer. Everyone hopes the squad is added to, a most have their preferences for who we move on to help cashflow, but for now, it’s all eyes to Watford.

It’s been a mixed start for the Vicarage Road outfit with a win and a defeat from their opening two ties, so arguably ‘form’ is in our favour for whatever that counts for at this early stage of the season, but the return of Kane is a massive confidence booster on top of what has been a defensively steady beginning.

Let’s see if we can make it three PL wins from three and then get a bit more business done.

Watford...

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

    Three from three. Why not?
Same eleven as last week with Kane instead of either Lucas and Bergweijn. Maybe keep Lucas for the second half. Dele can step up and and Skipp and Hojbjerg can hold the midfield.
Dier and Sanchez have been ok. Maybe Romero and Gil to have a run out at 70 plus minutes also Lucas. Keep the midfield tight with Winks and Lo Celso for another day.
C’mon on Sonny and Harry lets do it. We can do it. COYS

Thanks again Danny for the thread.
Why not 3 out of 3 9 points and Harry scoring in the Premiership in August.
For me he is forgiven but not forgotten, I don’t blame him for going toward the mighty dollar and glory.
However if he puts it behind him and gives 100%, I’ll be happy enough, if he wants to go next season so be it if he makes his feelings clear.
But Kane should be in the first 11 for Sunday.
I feel that Watford are the Wimbledon of the 2020’s they are a physical team who can bully sides, with that said I feel we will be too much for them COYS.

  • Geofspurs says:

ww …. That’s how I see it, too.

When you consider that this is, on paper, the easiest of our three games so far a win would be expected … even though we are not playing on paper. So, for me, it’s a 3-0 result.

  • TK says:

Harry’s on our team. He’s one of he top players in the world. Why wouldn’t we play him? My hunch is that Harry’s the sort of lad who’d find it difficult to put on the kit and play and not put in a real effort. Maybe he’s old school like that. Hope I’m right in my reading of his character.

But hell, yes, play Harry. He is still one of ours, even if he did go prodigal for a while. No man whose eye hasn’t strayed is to be trusted. LOL. He’s normal with a normal hankering for a flirtation.

He spent a lot of emotional capital like it was going out of style. He put us through the wringer. but he’s here, and ours, and I expect he’ll make us proud with his play.

Now let’s bury the memory of the Mourinho era with 9 points out of 9 point to open the PL campaign. It’s doable.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’ve watched Harry play quite a few matches, whereby I’ve thought to myself, he’s not really putting enough effort in today. It’s one reason why I would have been okay with him leaving.

But, Harry did put a fair bit of effort into his game on Thursday. And so I wonder if he is match-fit enough yet, to start again so soon? Because my feeling is that before, Harry has talked managers into playing him in matches that he was not really match-fit for. Hence my perception maybe, of the games he played in, in which I thought he had lacked the effort.

Also managers could do with substituting him early, a bit more often, when he is not on his game and not looking so sharp.

Will we see this with Nuno? It could actually do Harry some good by not over-playing him. But more importantly, it could be better for the team.

  • jod says:

Watford are consistent in being a very physical side and that has caused us problems in the past. Its a fair comparison with the Vinnie Jones Wimbledon side but no one would get away with what they did today. I suspect our defence will be in for a battering, it will be interesting to see how they do.

Of course they’ve just signed Sissoko for Β£3m and I actually think he’ll fit right in to how they play. I’ve said before that when you are trying to get rid of a player his value can be less than zero, Sissoko came close. For Watford its about matching his current wages, which doesn’t leave much for a fee. If his wages had been a bit higher we would have been paying them.

  • Niall D says:

So Sissoko is away, I wish him well, I think in getting him at the time, he had a very good Euros scoring a couple of goals, I think that Spurs were looking for a Yaya Toure type player.
Whilst he was industrious and a strong player, he just lacked that bit of skill or finesse, still can’t forgive him for the “handball”. He tried his best and put in a shift, good luck.

    • TK says:

The handball call was an injustice perpetrated by the man with the whistle. I don’t blame Sissoko for that one.

      • Geofspurs says:

TK …. Totally agree. I have never blamed Sissoko for the penalty. The ref ruined a good final. Despite the result I was proud of the way the team played.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Sarr is their danger man, Reguilon will have his work cut out for him. I believe him to be better than Traore, not quite as fast but usually gets good crosses into the centre, so he will keep the CB’s busy as well. Dealing with high crosses has been a weakness for some seasons now but hopefully the introduction of Romero and an improvement in the form of Dier and Sanchez will help deal with the threat.

  • 123spurs says:

50/50 battles, set pieces could be a key factor.

  • jod says:

TQ2Spurs – At 6′ 1″ Romero will need to have a hell of a jump to dominate in the air. Apart from Rodon we don’t have any central defenders over 6′ 2″. Admittedly there are fewer teams that utilise an aerial bombardment these days but we are vulnerable against anyone who does.

  • Geofspurs says:

This time tomorrow we could be top of the league, or second. Of course we have to beat Watford for that to happen. 3-0 should do nicely. Gotta love football!

  • wentworth says:

Let’s win and go top. But not a Maonino top but a top that takes us through to top 4 by the end of the season. C’mon you Spurs.
    .

  • Love totty says:

So win tomorrow and go top by 2. How often have we failed this test. Match them physically and we should win. COYS.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’m going to be mightily disappointed if we don’t take this opportunity to top the table. Can anyone recommend any sites for links, both of those I have used in the past aren’t working for me anymore. Thought I would be well covered having both Sky and BT this season. πŸ™

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It would be ueful to knock in a few to improve our goal difference, should be possible now that Harry is back in the fold. I have high hopes that Bryan will provide him with a good many assists over the season.

  • Love totty says:

TQ, do you have a firestick? If so put KODI on it with XANAX build. Google will guide you how to do it.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi LT, no I don’t have a firestick but thanks for the info, will check it out.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi Folks
I’ll have to get one of those fire stick thingys, not sure how this streaming stuff works.
BTW, TK and Geoff I was being a bit tongue in cheek re the hand ball.
    Hopefully we’ll do well tomorrow.
I wonder is there another teams supporters singing “bottom team in London” we’re the bottom team in London, 🎢😊

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Team?

    Hugo
    Tanganga Sanchez Dier Reguilon
    Hojbjerg Skipp Dele
    Son Kane Bergwijn

    Spurs 5-0 Watford!

  • Geofspurs says:

That’s a pretty balanced team, HT. Should win this one. I wonder if there has ever been a PL table showing Spurs on the top and Arsenal on the bottom. Doubt it.
