Match Thread – Spurs Looking For Three On The Spin Under Mason With Leeds Up Next

|

Having replaced former manager Jose Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspur’s caretaker gaffer, Ryan Mason, now heads into his fourth game in charge as we travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United in Saturday’s early Premier League kick off.

Mason’s plan against Manchester City in the EFL Cup Final didn’t quite work, but he does have victories over Southampton, and more recently, a heavy defeat of Sheffield United under his belt, so as we return to a bit more of an attacking intent, we know we will get chances against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Another good result puts us on the edge of being back in the battle for the top four/five places in the division and plenty of us had given up hope of that, and although their form over the last five games has tailed off, they are plucky and energetic battlers who keep running, so we’ll have to match the ugly stuff so our quality can show through.

Unless there are issues closer to the game, the only player listed as out currently continues to be Ben Davies, so all eyes to an on form Sonny, Harry and Garry.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

The more I think of it, the more I like the idea of Roberto Martinez. Of course, I may be biased because his results with Belgium have been very good overall, but I like his resume.

There have been highs and lows in his career (as with any coach), but he ticks a lot of boxes, on paper. He obviously knows the PL very well from his time at Wigan and Everton. He’s won an FA Cup with Wigan, which is nothing short of a miracle, and finished 5th with Everton, above us and United.

He’s been managing some top talent in the last 4 years, seems quite competent tactically, and plays open, positive football. And his contract situation with the Belgian FA means we wouldn’t have to pay large amounts to get him.

There are obviously other credible candidates out there, but to me, he’d be a far better candidate than someone with no experience in the PL, and a better candidate than someone who has never managed a big club/team andwould have no experience with big players and their big egos. The fact that he has actually won things (as an underdog, no less) is icing on the cake.

Can’t argue with that BS, he is one of a few I wouldn’t baulk at if appointed.

  • TK says:

TQ2; you said you’d take Ryan Mason managing Bruno Fernandes over Pep Guardiola managing ********** (insert your worst ever Tottenham signing here).

Pep Guardiola managing Helder Postiga. ðŸ˜ą
Pep Guardiola managing David Bentley ðŸ˜ą
Pep Guardiola managing Clinton Njie ðŸ˜ą

This could be quite a lengthy list. ðŸĪŠ

Hossam Mohamed El Sayed Metwalli Abdel Sattar Ghaly, anyone?

  • TK says:

Maybe he got angry because his whole name wouldn’t fit on a jersey?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

TK….I suggest you must have a thing for dodgy players if you can remember so many, I’ve put them out of my mind as soon as I could! lol

  • TK says:

God I can remember at least 20 I would put on the list. Roberto Salgad0… And at least 6 managers as well. that’s life as we age. at least dementia hasn’t yet robbed those bad memories. lol

  • TQ2Spurs says:

haha…..yes I suppose you have to look for the positives! 🙂

  • TQ2Spurs says:

So….Turkey is on the government red list, anyone travelling there has to isolate in a government hotel at their own expense when they return. Has anyone told he 8000 City and Chav fans that will be going to Istanbul for the CL final? What a farce!

  • TK says:

    TQ2

This seems to be the right year for a club not to be in the CL final. If we were there, Sissokoko would get a penalty in the first minute that would taint the entire match, and he would be tested positive while in isolation in a hotel at Gatwick on the way back to London. Insult and injury would compound one another.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

TK….knowing our luck we would have the winning goal disallowed after the scorer later tested positive for having foreign substance in their blood which turned out to be covid! 🙂

Can I just say that for the first time in ages I am looking forward to seeing my team play football tomorrow. That might be a tad premature but I expect a gung-ho sort of game to keep me on the edge of my seat rather than slumped in it, or hiding behind it.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Wow……the Toons are giving Leicester a good pasting!

Re Martinez, I hope you aren’t being biased as he is your home countries ‘manager.
He has managed arguably the best country in the world since the fantastic Spain squad, littered in all positions with massive talent.
What has this team won? fek all that’s what.
What trophies has he coached them to, that would be none.
A golden generation that has won nothing, nowt, nil, nada, sound familiar?
His CV doesn’t come near what we want, for me I can’t see him taking us forward.

  • TK says:

Wigan FA Cup 2013? manager. Roberto Martinez, no?

  • TK says:

    0 x 1 over man citeh

  • Niall D says:

    TK
I wasn’t saying that he won nothing at all, I was stating that he has won nothing at international level with the team ranked no1 in the world off and on for the last 4 to 5 years.
But if we look at CV ‘S then let’s bring JM back, his is the best by far.
I personally don’t see Martinez taking us forward, for me he lacks a tactical nouse, to progress, a team to be serial winners (see Belgium).

    • TK says:

I got your point and I basically agree with it. Just thought I’d point out the one thing he has won, and a huge upset it was. I’d accept a manager who’s not won any cups or major leagues, but i’m not big on Martinez. I remember him from his days with the Toffies.

  • 123spurs says:

Simeone will put this club and players in the straight an narrow

  • TQ2Spurs says:

FFS Niall….we’ve only just managed to get rid of him, for God’s sake don’t suggest bringing him back already! lol

  • TK says:

You expanded your repertory to include brute sarcasm, lol. might as well bring JM back. No thanks. JM never won an FA club with players like those at Wigan.
