Match Thread – Spurs Looking For Some TLC From The NLD Or Will The Gooners Get Us

|

With new Tottenham Hotspur gaffer, Nuno Espirito Santo, experiencing his first real struggles with performance levels and results in recent matches, it was a change of pace on Wednesday evening as he returned to Molineux to face former club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup.

It was an unexpectedly bright start from Spurs and 25 minutes in we had a two goal advantage following efforts from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane and it looked like we might take some real confidence into Sunday’s North London battle with Arsenal.

Sadly not as Wolves hit back to take the game to penalties and even though we secured a 3-2 win, it was again more of a sense of relief than a reemergence of any real form.

Although we head to the Library with a three point advantage, form is clearly on their side as they come into the tie looking for their third win on the spin, so with derby day tensions on top, it takes a brave man to try and predict this one – but with a reaction expected from the players, there would be little sweeter than travelling home with a win from this one.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

WW …. I think we do have a couple of good ‘dribblers’ in the squad …. Moura and Bergwyn. The former just needs to control his runs and instead of attempting to beat that one extra man, pass it. The latter has the will and the skill to dribble and should, hopefully, improve with time. Both players are fast when going forward and look dangerous when the team is breaking. With Son, we have three very fast players. It’s all about how the team is set up and the attitude of the players, I think.

PY …. I agree that any new manager probably deserves one season in the job.

  • 123spurs says:

Control his runs and pass, how many years of training and coaching does it take to sort it out. To inconstant sadly

  • 123spurs says:

You can have the fastest players is all well in good, but to have no end product, 1 good game in 5, poor decision making etc. Can’t see any attacking player getting 10 plus goals beside kane and son. Even dele hasn’t scored from open play.

We are weak and wounded, and letting in 2 plus goals a game is very worrying.

  • wentworth says:

Moura very inconsistent. Bergweijn has never stepped up. Son is a delight but he and Kane ( our best midfielder) are the only consistent scorers. We desperately need a decent attacking midfielder to make up for Eriksen. N’Dombele seems to be working a bit but Lo Celso is absolute rubbish….how he gets picked is a mystery.

  • Geofspurs says:

Sorry guys, but I like Moura and Bergwyn. They have attributes as well as their faults, like most players. It’s up to Nuno to get the best out of the squad. And it’s never too late to learn. I do agree with you about Lo Celso, WW.

“Spurs looking for some TLC (Tender Loving Care?) from the NLD”. Are we?

Just some goals will be nice. Preferably 1, 2 or more goals than the other lot can score.

    Arsenal 0-3 Tottenham!

    Hi folks
I hope your all keeping well,
I just watched Chelsea v Man C yesterday, and for about an hour it was a very poor watch, I don’t think there was a shot on target from either side in the first half, the game didn’t spring to life until Man C scored.
So it ain’t just us playing unentertaining football, other teams can do it as well, maybe just not as often.
Hope we put in a good performance today.

  • Niall D says:

    BTW
I note Man U are back on the “soft penalty” awards again this year.
Thankfully they didn’t score this one, but Refs keep giving them.

  • 123spurs says:

Todays game will tell us where we are, let’s not to am AJ and be sluggish. But if we set up to defensive, it won’t end well. Set the tempo, take the game to them.

  • TK says:

    1Hugo Lloris
    15Eric Dier
    6Davinson Sánchez
    3Sergio Reguilón
    25Japhet Tanganga
    5Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
    20Dele Alli
    28Tanguy Ndombele
    10Harry Kane
    7Son Heung-Min
    27Lucas Moura

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Not sure about such an attacking line up when we have at least two players who are highly prone to defensive mistakes (Sanchez and N’Dombele) against a strong Arsenal attack. Would have preferred Skipp for Dele at least to start with. But hope I’m proved wrong about this of course.

  • 123spurs says:

2 local rookies link up and score while we have none. Time is running out for nuno already

  • TK says:

How the eff can a defense leave that space open like that right in front to the goal? That looked like the defense for a team in a league for 12 year olds. I’m embarrassed watching my team letting in that goal.

  • 123spurs says:

Poor set up and team selection by nuno, dier and sanchez, enough said, not good enough under poch, not good enough under jose, and still manager picks them. Shocking really

  • TK says:

this indeed is an embarrassing start to a NLD. Almost another botch job in front of our goal.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Oh well……..at last our ladies are unbeaten and top of the league at the moment!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    * at least…not last.

  • 123spurs says:

TK, dier and sanchez are not good enough for years, so what do u expect, every game mistakes are in them yet still picked and itialian defender of the year on the bench

  • 123spurs says:

Still want to give nuno till end of the season.
