Match Thread – Spurs Eye Leeds & Will The Break Help Conte Solve Our Scoring Issues

|

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has an unbeaten record as we go into the November international break, but with a troublesome performance in our victory against Vitesse added to what is now four odd hours without a Premier League goal given the scoreless draw with Everton, he’s got his work cut out for him as we now move towards the Leeds United clash.

With Everton being yet another game without a single shot on target, Conte certainly won’t be helped with our international attackers off for duty – not least misfiring Harry Kane – so his chances of a quick fix over the break will be patchy at best. Everton was, however, a clean sheet, which is a start after more recent leaky performances, but any fan would be hard pushed to say it was a performance you’d have expected to see following the appointment of a ‘name’ like Conte.

For many, that will be a troublesome development of its own as we look to these players and continue wondering why they are now consistently underperforming based on how we know they can play.

It’s an important fortnight, and all we can do is cross our fingers.

Can Conte Turn Spurs Around?

Yes, With Time

No, It's Time For The Players To Take The Blame

My biggest gripe is that we are so boring. I used to look forward to games to see the flashes of skill, the great passes, the dribbles, the shots from distance and superb free kicks.
Now it’s all shuffle, sideways, backwards. So boring.

  • 123spurs says:

WW we don’t have those type of players in our lockers. To play this type of football and also the manahet doesn’t play like that

  • wentworth says:

You are right 123. We lost Bale, Eriksen and Dembele who usd to bring some skills and excitement. Now we are left with the sideways, backwards shufflers and falling overs.
I can’t remember the last time I jumped up with excitement. Probably Son’s run from his own half or Dele’s volley against Palace. Distant memories.

  • 123spurs says:

I ment the manager, agree we don’t have these demba, eriksen type anymore.

  • Allan says:

    PY
So you think that everything that we have witnessed in the past 20 years is supported without criticism and is wonderful ?
It is all very well using dry humour against members opinions but I have not seen your opinions about the fantastic football overseen by Levy and ENIC .
Yes we all support the club and you are not the only long term supporter ( I was at Highbury when George Robb scored the winning goal ) .
I have put the ball in both your and Jod ‘s half to argue ENICS and Levy’s case . How can the club pay millions to employ / get rid or managers and plead poverty when buying players ?
I want the footballing side of the club to succeed just as any true supporter would but we have to be realistic and even with hind sight I have little faith , at present , that Conte will be given the support that he requires to create a truly watchable side .
Over to you . Don’t come out on a boat in the Solent you never know who is watching esp sometning with 25metres and a tail !!!

    • PompeyYid says:

Allan, thanks for that, never once have I said I backed DL or ENIC, also I have never said I backed Jod, but in truth he does ask some serious questions, which unfortunately nobody answers.

I am sorry if what I write/wrote misleads you, its either me the writer or you the reader, no matter!
Football wise if I think its good or bad I will say, its as easy as that.
I have never said I am the only long term supporter on here, If I did I would be a bloody numpty, I do know there are a loads of others, esp with the long term mates I have.

As we now have a Fantastic Ground/Training facilities, which unfortunately I may never visit because of the circumstances that surround me, it is time to now finally to start investment in our team, and I truly believe with the appointments of MDOF and Conti, plus DL stepping back it is the first baby steps of our recovery, some including yourself are in doubt, you are entitled to that opinion, we will just have to wait and see.

If it goes with your beliefs and against mine and others, then the circle of blah blah round n round we go again restarts.

As for a boat on the Solent, last time, 12 years ago, was 2 years of travelling back n forth on the Car Ferry, before that many years before was a Commando carrier Flat top, big enough for you, 25metre and a tail?…COYS

Looks like Harry has finally woken up!

  • Niall D says:

    Yeah 123
He must have stopped to pick up his tool bag on the way to Wembley. 😠

  • Niall D says:

    Sorry should’ve been TQ
Even his whole body language is different.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It definitely was Niall, let’s just hope he can carry it over to his club performances.

  • Niall D says:

I’m actually saddened by this performance last night, that he had three goals a near miss an assist, in 60 minutes for England, but yet couldn’t even register a shot on target in 4 hours of play for us.
A lot of commentators have said that this was some sort of statement of intent by Kane.
For me it has only shown that his attitude for Spurs this season has been wrong, the shop window is opening again and he is showing perspective purchasers that he can score goals, “when he wants to”
TQ if he does find form for Spurs between now and Christmas, that’s good but now, I just want him gone, he doesn’t want to be at Spurs, so let him go.

  • Geofspurs says:

FFS …. How many times do I have to say it before people understand. England have better players and perform better than Spurs. Of course HK performs better for England. He has better players around him. When our team performance improves, and a lot of our individuals lift their game, HK will score more goals. It’s not a one-man team game. There are eleven players on the park. Surely some of you have played as stikers. Bloody hell!!

Glad I got rid of that! lol

  • Niall D says:

    FfS
How many times do I need to say it, he’s a fekin centre forward, he ain’t scoring goals for us this season.
Now Geoff, you can say what you like, but 4 hours without even a sniff at goal says to me something is wrong, you have your opinion I have mine.
Truth is he’s not scoring for Spurs m8. FFS.

    • wentworth says:

But strikers need service. A midfielder who can thread the ball through ( Eriksen) , a winger/ wingback who can cross the ball, a supporting striker (Dele) who can pass the ball. We have none. England have loads of alternatives. They are a coherent squad. We are a hotchpotch of individuals who are just not good enough.
Kane needs support and decent crosses like last night.

  • 123spurs says:

With all England’s, talent, star players, they still have won nothing.

  • Geofspurs says:

    WW …. Exactly.

ND ….. My comment was not directed at you …. but to everyone in general. However, I doubt you have played as a striker in a poor team, or a striker at all, come to that. You get no support. You get frustrated. You lose a degree of enthusiasm. And it all results in a loss of form. Of course HK hasn’t been playing well but the4, how many have.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    Geof….did you watch todays game?

What a performance from our ladies today in the NLD! We are the first WSL team to take points from them this season and came within 3 minutes of taking all 3.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to sit our mens team down and watch the game to demonstrate how to show fight and passion in a NLD!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof, I think you are showing an undeserved amount of sympathy to Kane, unless Conte has performed a miracle he showed a degree of energy and desire last night that we have not seen from him for a good few months. I think it is widely accepted now that his form of late has been affected not just by transfer speculation but also by England’s defeat in the euro final. That said, I wouldn’t deny his lack of goals is partly due to a lack of creativity in the Spurs squad.

  • 123spurs says:

Even the woman have the course of the spurs jinx.

  • wentworth says:

Lack of creativity in our squad. We have no creativity at present. It’s all shuffle, shuffle, fall over, pass back, pass sideways.
We are still desperate for a decent midfielder, a winger/ wing back who can go to the by line and cross the ball ( Gil nope), a support striker who can draw defenders away, a decent free kick taker. We need change. New faces.
    We are boring and predictable.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

123….there was nothing cursed or jinxed about our ladies performance today.

  • 123spurs says:

    A late goal, 92 min.
