Match Thread – Nothing To See Here, Move Along For Newcastle v Spurs

|

After another dull, and pretty boring break in the fixture list for those who aren’t that interested in international football, the proper action is back for Tottenham Hotspur fans as we make the trip up to newly minted Newcastle United.

Following their recent majority takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, but the Premier League being ‘assured’ the Saudi Arabian Government will not be involved in the running of the club – even though Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is the Chairman of PIF and it’s basically the states savings account whose raison d’etre is to secure non-oil based revenue for Saudi Arabia as a whole – what this actually means for our trip up to St James’ Park is open for debate.

Newcastle United fans will definitely be boosted after all their battles with Mike Ashley, but given the wealth of the new ‘non-Government linked’ owners, it’s easy to imagine there will be a good degree of uncertainty, both amongst management and players when it comes to their futures.

Having ended our three game losing streak with the 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, we will be looking to make that back to back wins again and given their start to the season, you’d have to make us firm favourites to do just that, as long as we turn up.

But of course, so far that has been the story of 2021/22 – will Spurs turn up?

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

As a fan of fair competition, I deplored the skewing of the PL by Sheiks and Oligarchs packing their squads of the best players with outlandish wages. Of course the big clubs with big fanbases always used to dominate but with smaller squads the playing field was more level and anybody could win a cup. Now I still want fair competition but am more inclined to say if UEFA can’t beat them, join them. It tastes bad but so does defeat.

    There you go …. 5th is ours for the taking …. maybe …. probably …. I think …. or not …. fukced if I know! : – )

  • Hot Tottingham says:

No pussyfooting around from me today… We are gonna smash ’em!

    Magpies 0-5 Cockerels!

    Harry Kane hat-trick! Son x2!

  • TK says:

Two minutes and a man not marked. JHkristo.

I’m wondering what anyone makes of Scholes co=mments that Poch set up the attack to Kane’s strenths and Nuno is setting up the attack to Kane’s weaknesses?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    Terrific……first attack, goal conceded! 🙁

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

As if we needed any more convincing, we are a really bad football team with incompetent owners, a poor manager who has no plan and players who apart from being a bit dense (did they not see this Newcastle start coming) clearly couldn’t care very much. What a shambles of a club we are.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

    N’dombele is class though

  • TK says:

finally seeing a play from Ndombele. only had to wait how long to see him make a play?

  • TK says:

Looks like there might be a bit of fight in the lads today

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    Thank heavens for VAR! lol

Credit to our fans for making themselves heard from way up there in the gods.

  • Geofspurs says:

The game lasts 90 minutes, not 3. it’s never a good idea to write any team off that early. Good game so far with 3 well taken goals. Hope the supporter is okay.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

My thoughts also with the person who has suffered the emergency.

I’m encouraged by the character shown to come back from the early setback.

  • TK says:

There appears to be far more flow in the Spurs play today that I’ve seen before this season. Ndombele looks involved in a way that he rarely has been. Harry might be coming out of his doldrums.

They’re saying the person with the heart problem is stable. Hope that’s true.

Three goals after giving up the quick one truly is a good sign. It’s also a source of hope to see HK playing football instead of looking miserable. I surely missed him.

  • TK says:

Emerson looking good. Royal Jelly, the food of the Queen Bee. He’s looking more sweet today and deserving of the nickname.

My Brazilian step son, who follows football like an evangelist follows the gospels, keeps telling me he’s going to come good for us and we’ll be really happy with him. But his reputation is as someone who hasn’t yet fulfilled the promise. Don’t worry, I’m told. the man’s got what is needed to succeed. Hope I’m getting the right reading, but my stepson lives and dreams football. He’s a walking encyclopaedia, but I wish he’d do better in school. I think he expects me to pay his bills forever, but old men don’t live forever.

  • TK says:

In that really bad patch of matches our team seemed not to get the loose balls, but today we seem to be scrambling to get them. The attitudes of the players seem much more positive today.

Is it in the stars? Or in the players? Or in the star players? 😜 Whatever it is, there was more apparent effort today. Maybe Newcastle was just too dazzled by all the impending changes coming their way. Most of them will not have jobs in Newcastle in a few months.

but our lads seemed far more woke today, as the word has it.

  • TK says:

by the way, THFC stadium has been getting spectacular reviews by the North Americans with the NFL matches there.

  • TK says:

    Dier git

  • wentworth says:

Yep I think this is our strongest team.
Man of Match for me was Reguilon for many points of view. N’Dombele one of his best games.
    Ridiculous error from Dier.
    Kane and Son looking good.
Good result which we desperately needed otherwise who was the next to go? Bruce, Ole or Nuno?

  • TK says:

goal difference is going to kill us, you git

  • Niall D says:

Well that sort of ended with a phew, I did say about us contriving our own down fall and yet again Dier with an unforced error, he just has a “Ricky” in him.
But mostly played well good movement by far the better team.
Maybe we’re starting to turn the ship round.
Good result in and around top 5 COYS.
