Match Thread – Mourinho’s Been Sent On His Jose As Greedy Spurs Again Misjudge The Mood

|

Well, it’s turned into a semi-interesting week for fans of Tottenham Hotspur – but not in a way many of us would’ve liked it to be.

Following Sunday’s late breaking European Super League nonsense, on Monday morning Spurs took an unexpected step and decided to sack manager Jose Mourinho. Now maybe I’m too cynical for my own good, but this smacks of changing the narrative and trying to drive headlines as nobody can be in any doubt about how badly the ESL has been received, not just at club level, but across the wider footballing world.

European Super League

Love It

Disgraceful Move

There is absolutely only one driver to this – greed and money – and having previously misjudged the mood when it came to Covid and furlough, Daniel Levy, the board and our owner have again monumentally misjudged fans in their chase for what I can only see as a criminal and cartel like ‘closed shop’ competition that gives all those involved a clear unfair advantage over fellow domestic sides – which in turn, ruins the credibility of that leagues competitive nature.

Not a merit based advantage that we currently have, but an advantage wholly gained by a handout for involvement and nothing more.

Fans are hoping to return to a more normal life after Covid, and Spurs pull this stunt now and to me, simply sack Mourinho as a public relations move to deflect attention. It’s contemptible and disgusting behaviour in no way demonstrating what our club should stand for.

We play Southampton this Wednesday evening, I’m not so sure how much I care now.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

jod is right, of course. who’s to be hired to replace Mourinho? After all, DL has a terrible record hiring managers. The proof of this is obvious: DL hired Mourinho!

Oh woe are we. Jod, why didn’t you warn us before Mourinho was fired? He was fired and hired by the same nitwit. Oh woe are we. The same nitwit will probably hire Mourinho again.

By the way, I’ve sent two emails to DL in my life. (in his life, too). One was asking him to fire Harry Redknapp. The other to fire José Mourinho. And in both cases DL followed my advise. both were fired within the week. I seem to be the all powerful DL emailer.

I’m afraid to send him another email recommending who he should hire. He’ll probably listen to me, and my skill is limited to knowing who needs to be sacked.

  • 123spurs says:

    Who hired Poch

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    “Who hired Poch”, 123?

It was jod. Jod hired Poch!

TQ. Yes, I’m pretty sure that Stones will now miss the final…

  • 123spurs says:

I think if you get sent off in one competition you should be banned for that competition,

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I presumed he would be as it’s the league cup, wasn’t sure the same applied had it been the FA cup?

  • jod says:

TK – “my skill is limited to knowing who needs to be sacked”, you said it not me. Problem is you could say the same about most people on this site.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You must be right Jod, as you are in all matters, while we are all just a bunch of ignoramuses.

Not sure why you come here, all you do is insult other posters and rubbish their views, why don’t you try to engage and properly debate them, you might enjoy it!

  • wentworth says:

Woke this morning knowing we had ended the miserable period under Moanino. Such a relief to know that the players, officials and fans no longer have to put up with the boring, morose, bullying “not so special one”. He will now be banking 15 million quid until yet another unsuspecting club are conned by his past glories.

We can now move on. Last night we had the luck with a dubious penalty unless it was our “super subs!” that made the difference. Good luck to Ryan Mason. Lovely bloke.

We now await the appointment of a modern, attacking coach. It will be a bit like a new headteacher taking over a run down, depressed school. Time for the year 6’s to move on to secondary schools and a new regime to set the tone. C’mon You Spurs. The future is bright….the future is lillywhite.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Morning WW, agree with your sentiments.

  • PompeyYid says:

Well we won last night, baby steps, a win is a win, poor 1st half, the players had a number of shocks to get over I think, plus change of strategy/mindset from Ryan, well done young man, 2nd half proved that.

They could quite easily have been thinking about out biggest game of the season on Sunday, but give em their dues they come out in the 2nd with a smile and went for it.

Also not having our talisman, Our Arry, didn’t help but hey ho we won.
Bale was given a bit more time…hey presto an exquisite goal!
The penalty was not iffy/lucky, VAR played its part, it was a definate pen, simple as that.

The times are a changing at Spurs. COYS

    • BelgianSpur says:

Stonewall penalty for sure. But that’s not the point.

The point was that we had to rely on a Soton player to recklessly lunge in his box, and concede a penalty, to getus the winning goal. If that hadn’t happened, I think we could have played another 30 minutes and not created a clear cut chance to win it. And that’s a worry.

I take the point that Kane wasn’t there, but that only reinforces how dependent we are on him…

      • TQ2Spurs says:

BS…we did create and score another goal, it’s just unfortunate that Lucas couldn’t keep himself onside or out of the goalies line of sight.

      • Ossie says:

We had to rely on our attacking intent to score, if that penalty wasn’t given who’s to know we wouldn’t have scored more.

        • BelgianSpur says:

And that attacking intent almost cost us on the counter… On another day, or with Ings still on, we could also have conceded more…

We’ll never know, but let’s be honest here are either of you arguing we battered Southampton and won convincingly?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

After the last few months it’s really good to come here and find a little bit of positivity creeping back in.

I don’t have any great expectations for Sunday or the rest of the season but will be happy to be surprised. I am now looking forward to the appointment of a forward thinking young(ish) manager who can lift the confidence of the current squad and get them playing to the best of their ability. I don’t think this will happen until the current season finishes but hope that the new guy has sufficient pre-season to work with the squad and have a say in any changes. I can’t see a lot of ins and outs personally due to the financias due to covid.

  • BelgianSpur says:

TQ2Spurs – I hope you’re wrong. Not on the modern, forward thinking coach part, but on the ins and outs.

If we don’t use this opportunity to start rebuilding the squad, sooner or later we’re just going to run into the same systemic issues with the new manager.

We all know there currently isn’t enough qualityin the squad to win things, even when everyone is fit and firing. The best version of Eric Dier at CB is still a liability waiting to happen, same with Aurier. A new manager make get Toby to play mistake-free football again, but he’s not going to magically inject pace into Toby’s game at 32.

At best, if all goes right, we’d be back to a top 4 team. And looking at the last 10 years, that is stagnation, at best.

Firing the manager just seems like we’d be going 50% of the way to solve our problems. If we’re going to stop there, I question what the point was, except throw 15 million down the drain…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

BS…..I just think that’s the reality of the situation due to covid.

I think there will be some movement, out especially, and I agree that Toby is making too many mistakes and it’s time for him to go. I honestly believe Joe Rodon is going to be a decent buy but there is no doubt we need to bring in a top quality CB and a decent right back to replace Aurier. I watched him last night and his decision making and positioning was dreadful.

If we can raise enough from sales it would be good to bring in a young attacking playmaker with Lamela and possibly Dele leaving. I’m not sure the latter is ever going to reproduce his form of 2-3 years ago.

  • Niall D says:

    TQ
    Lot of good points there,
I think if Dier could accept that he could be a decent stand in at CDM or CB, he could still be a bit of an asset, I just don’t feel he is first choice, but still OK for the subs bench.
    We Do need a RB.
And agreed Toby needs to go along with Sissoko, if only for their respective ages.
Similarly Lamella could go, if only for his injuries, never mind his over exuberance on the pitch which leads to yellow /red cards, aggression is OK, but controlled aggression.
Dele, much like Linguard needs a new challange at a different club, I would love to see a come back from him in a Spurs shirt, but not sure.
I think WW pointed out that Regs ain’t great at LB, I didn’t quite notice this until last night, he was found wanting on a couple of occasions, surely to bring Sess back in would be a better option both going forwards and in defence.
I still say 6 or 7 out about 4 really good players in.
Re the manager, over the last 20 years or so, we’ve had world Cup winners, league winners, European Cup winners, young managers, old stagers, first timers, British managers, foreign managers, guys with a Tottenham history, men with no link to Spurs, attack minded, defence minded, guess what none of this has worked.
So for the likes of Jod, I ain’t got a clue, who the fek we can bring in.
My money would be on Neglesman, for the simple reason that he has his team playing attractive, efficient football, his players are athletic and his teams are difficult to beat without being overly defensive.
    Just my tuppence worth.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

We can all dream can’t we…..how about Nagelsmann comes in and brings Upamecano and Sabitzer with him? That would just mean finding a right back.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hugo go to PSG, Navas has looked a bit dodgy so I’m sure Poch would love to have a solid replacement/backup goalie. If he does go I guess we will look at the likes of Pope or Henderson. We have been linked to a guy at a French side as well. Meslier at Leeds is pretty decent for someone who has only just turned 21.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I said it on here just a few days ago, before JM was fired.

My man for the job is Bielsa. I’d love to see him at Spurs. Even if it’s just for a season or two. Why? Because quite simply, I love the mans footballing philosophy.

But I haven’t a clue if Bielsa would be a success at Spurs or not… (My TARDIS is no longer in working order!)

And whoever Levy has in mind and whoever takes the post. We will just have to wait and see if they were the right choice or not.

It’s really a fruitless task to speculate right now on how the next one will do in his post, whoever they may be.

I didn’t want Redknapp or Poch for instance. But many supporters will still look at those two with fondness. And, they both did better than most. But I was never that keen on Harry whilst in the job. And yet I quickly became a big fan of Poch and remained so…

I certainly didn’t want JM. But many supporters were over the moon that we had hired him. And it didn’t end well at all…….

Right here, right now? My money’s on Ryan Mason to win us a trophy and then reach the top 4!

But I don’t know if this will actually happen, do I? 🙂

  • Hot Tottingham says:

And, further into my world of sweet imaginings…

How sweet it would be for firstly Ryan to win us the trophy vs City. And then for Poch to also then beat City with PSG, knock them out and go onto lead a team into his second CL final. But this time win it.

    It’s not impossible! 😉

    • BelgianSpur says:

As much as like MP, I hate everything PSG stand for and I sure hope they never win the CL. Rightn now the best case scenario would be Real Madrid winning it all again…

  • Ossie says:

I think most but not all Spurs fans feel that way too….

  • PompeyYid says:

I do agree that we need a forward thinking manager, I also hope he has a thick skin because if it ain’t instant results/success, etc, he will be chopped to pieces, esp on ere, not by all of course.

A rebuild is also required, stagnation abounds, but it will have to be “baby steps” little by little, esp because of Covid and the bucks situation we find ourselves in. COYS

  • wentworth says:

No apology yet from Joe Lewis, ENIC or Daniel Levy re Super League fiasco. So glad to know they all care for the fans rather than making sh*tloads of money out of Tottenham Hotspurs PLC when it is sold. Were we the last of the sheep to join and the last of the sheep to leave?
