Match Thread – Can Spurs Out Fox Leicester & End 2020/21 With A Win

|

Tottenham Hotspur well and truly saw the wheels fall off as we welcomed inconsistent Aston Villa to White Hart Lane for our penultimate Premier League clash of the 2020/21 campaign.

Despite taking the early lead in the game, Spurs were largely woeful and the visitors were likely aggrieved that the scoreline wasn’t higher than the 2-1 it was at the break. It seemed what could go wrong, would go wrong and that’s even allowing for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris taking out their striker in the box, and the referee not even giving a penalty a second thought.

Now it’s all eyes to Sunday’s curtain closer with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, where we have one final chance to put in a convincing performance and attempt to take some momentum into what is going to be a crucial summer for our future.

If we start like we finished the Villa, but maybe with a bit more urgency, we know we are good enough to take the win, but perform like we did in the first half and Brendan Rodgers’ side will be all over us like a rash.

Let’s hope Harry isn’t saying the same thing after the next game.

Leicester

Win

Draw

Lose

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

One summer day doesn’t make a summer, Leicester won something spurs didn’t. Coys. Hope new manager be announced soon.

    One sunny day*

All things considered we fully deserved to win this game despite some appallingly poor individual performances. Soft penalties given by clumsy defending AGAIN. Good to pay Leicester back for ruining our tilt at the title four years ago and some consolation to yet again pip Arsenal. Pleased for H but I hope Levy makes it clear that he must go abroad if he he’s not up for the challenge of Jimmy’s record.

It’s all over now baby Blue!

We’ve beaten the league winners and the cup winners this season …. so I think it only fair to give us the Double.

Nice to end with a very entertaining, attacking game, and a win.

  • Niall D says:

    Good win.
Leicester, if that’s what they have to do to try and win games, shame on em.
We dug deep put in good effort, we are actually a better team than Leicester, when you think on it they did nothing except cheat for 2 pens. 4 good goals good press espically after Bale came on, pity he couldn’t do if for every game, pity we had played l I’m e that all season, it was a good dig deep performance, won’t go into who needs to stay or go, who ever leaves Spurs I wish them well, I want some gone more quickly that others. Good luck folks.

  • Geofspurs says:

    And well done Harry!

Kane and Kerr …. a pair of boots!

With the curtain now drawn on the season fellow VS’ers, just a quick thanks from me for your support of the site, the chats, debates, jokes and at points, education – it’s all made for fantastic reading, even during the more disappointing weeks as results didn’t make this season what we’d all hoped it would be.

Big summer ahead, some key decisions to be made and over the summer I hope you stick with us, and just as importantly, keep safe as we hopefully get back to more normality, and you all come back fully recharged for whatever 2021/22 decides to throw at us.

    Thanks folks!

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Harry was playing CL football with Chelsea next season. 🙂

  • Shroppie says:

Really funny how all the pudits going on about Leicester
If the rolls were reversed and we had to win the game for champions league they it would be ‘spursy, bottled it
Not a top four team etc etc

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Yes but they still won the cup so didn’t end up empty handed like we always do.

  • Niall D says:

Had to laugh at the Beeb tonite, showed Kanes “hand ball” but nothing on Vardys Dives, plus a month ago they spent 15 minutes dissecting the Sonny dive it was like an autopsy, yet not a word, not a word about Grealish getting Aspelulpeuta sent off, you either apply critique fairly or not at all.
    Shows they are anti Spurs.

  • 123spurs says:

Poch failed at psg. Spot in niall.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Niall…..I didn’t see the second penalty decision at the time as my stream went down but watched the replay on MoTD. What a con, the slow motion clearly showed Vardy deliberately linking his arm around Davy’s then throwing himself to the ground as though he had been shoved. It was so blatant and should have been reviewed by the referee. The first one was very soft as well, Vardy ran behind Toby and tripped himself up on his trailing leg. I’m so glad they didn’t benefit from it at the end.

TQ2 the MOD pundits are directed to say negative things more than positive. What they can then add is their own biased views… Gary L is always a Leicester fan not as an ex spurs player ! Alan & Wrighty newcastle / Arsenal… At least wrighty gave Lamela Goal of the season… a rabona against arsenal… lol

Yes vardy is a cheat but got 2 penalties, and still lost..justice served. HK10 was never a penalty ball hit his rght thigh, VAR clearly showed this. Im glad spurs stopped them getting top 4 and champions league. 🙂

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi block……yes, he did give it rather grudgingly. lol

To be fair, I don’t think it would have been mine.

  • Niall D says:

Very annoying how on 23 April, we were above Liverpool in the league, and somehow we lose out yet they finish 3rd, for me it does show that we could’ve made it with the proper application.

    • Stan Rosenthal says:

And a bit of luck Niall. Watched the MOTD goals of the season last night and of course the last kick Spammers equaliser was up there, a kick that could have gone anywhere but ended up in the very top right corner of the net. That kick cost us a proper Euro place in the end. Nice to see the Gods sparing us the final Arse up humiliation with the Schmeichel mistake that set us on our way. Showed how different things might have been if we had had more of that. Let’s hope our luck will even out next season.Anyway best of luck to you all till we meet again. These threads are some of my favourite pastimes, despite the aggravation at times.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

That’s true Niall, Liverpool won 8 and drew 2 of their last 10 league games which is good by any standard and the kind of form you need on the run in.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It’s frustrating when you think we only needed to have turned 2 of our losses into wins over the season and we would have finished 4th.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Jim White and Simon Jordan on Talksport discussing Vardy’s pens yesterday and both agree the second was a blatant dive.

  • PompeyYid says:

Vardy, apparently he was being Cute! to win the pens lol! Cute = Cheat U Tosser Everytime.

Now for a very interesting summer before 21/22 season. COYS
