Dreadful Spurs fail to justify £60 tickets as fans endure another loss

|

Fans returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time in months, but had to suffer watching the team lose at home to Aston Villa in what was an awful display from Spurs.

Surprise selection Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring with a brilliant piece of strength and balance before lashing home a fantastic shot into the roof of the net.

A gob-smacking own-goal from left-back Sergio Reguilon and another defensive howler from the Spaniard allowing Ollie Watkins to score from close-range flipped the scoreline on it’s head.

After the break, Spurs piled on the pressure and continued to press forward, but with no real piercing attacks as Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa snuffed out any danger on countless occasions, and on the only times that a shot did sneak it’s way past the pair, Emi Martinez matched it comfortably.

Villa substitute Carney Chukwuemeka hit the post in injury time after striking from range and beating Hugo Lloris, as Spurs continued to throw everything at the other end, leaving the defence out-numbered and exposed.

The defeat means that Spurs need to beat Leicester at the weekend on the final game of the season if they are to secure European football for next season by qualifying for the Europa League or the brand new European Conference League, with Everton and Arsenal now within range of overtaking should Ryan Mason’s team slip up again.

The failure to achieve European football would also only push talisman Kane towards the exit door even more, and if there is any chance of him staying this season, some of his teammates need to step-up against FA Cup winners Leicester, who now look like they have gone clear of the North London club.

Hopefully, Daniel Levy refunds all the paying fans out of his own pocket in the near future, as the ticket price of £60 was not even justified a little bit.
