Loanee Round-Up: Scarlett’s FA Cup absence sparks potential recall rumours

|

In relatively quiet week for our Spurs loanees, the main story came from the South Coast with young forward Dane Scarlett reportedly being denied permission to play for Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Saturday.

This has sparked rumours that the England U19 international may be recalled in January and possibly play for Spurs in future rounds of the competition.

However, following his sides 3-1 over Hereford, Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley told fans to not worry about Scarlett’s FA Cup absence: (Speaking to BBC Radio Solent) Via Portsmouth News

‘Tottenham have said to us that they will allow him to play in the next round if we got through.

‘That’s the communication we’ve had with them and we’re hopeful that we might have him for the next one.

‘It’s absolutely the prerogative of the parent club to make that decision so we totally respect that.

‘It’s not been easy. We put one fire out and another one starts at the moment.’

Hopping over the English Channel – Joe Rondon who is plying his trade in France with Rennes, sat out his sides 1-1 draw with Lille with a sickness bug.

Our Italian based loanees (Harry Winks aside) have arguably been our best performers with Tanguy Ndombele and Destiny Udogie impressing with Napoli and Udinese.

Ndombele struggled to really impact the game in his sides 2-0 loss at Anfield last Tuesday. However, the Frenchman impressed when he came off the bench in Napoli’s 2-1 over Atalanta on Saturday. It was a typical Ndombele performance with the midfielder gliding past players as if they weren’t there.

Udogie on the other hand did not feature this week as his Udinese side continued their recent poor form – slumping to a 1-1 draw against Lecce.

Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon – both playing in La Liga – did not feature for their sides (Villareal and Atletico Madrid) with Lo Celso sitting out with a muscle injury and Reguilon only just returning from a long-term injury.

Both Harry Winks and Troy Parrott continue to sit out with injury, as both players look to recover in time for the season resuming after the World Cup, this winter.
