Loanee Round Up:

Ranking ALL of Tottenham’s loanees so far this season

|

Considering we are about to take a month off club football due to the forthcoming Qatar World Cup, a thought it would be timely to rate all of our loanees, to see how they are getting on.

Dane Scarlett 8/10

One of most impressive loanees so far this season, Scarlett started life on the South Coast in blistering form scoring three goals in his first 352 minutes for the club. This led to Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley labelling him as “fantastic young player” also stating that “he has an unbelievable level of competence and as a consequence, has a real confidence in himself, and rightly so.” (Hampshire Live)

Scarlett has five goal contributions in 16 league appearances so far this season however, the youngster has not scored since his brace against Peterborough back in September – so he will be desperate for a goal.

Despite his recent goal drought, the 18-year-old has gained some vital first team experience which will put him in good stead for years to come.

Tanguy Ndombele 7/10

The Frenchman’s career has arguably seen another revival since arriving in Naples, after being casted out by Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

Ndombele is currently playing for one of the best sides in Europe, with Napoli ripping up Serie A and the Champions League. The midfielder has played an important role in his sides electric start to Serie A this season appearing 13 times for the table toppers.

Although Ndombele has not contributed to a goal in the league this season, he has saved his best for the Champions league, registering a goal and an assist in five appearances in the competition – helping Napoli top group A.

Ndombele still looks like he cannot complete a full 90 but does look more at home in Italy, with the game being less physically challenging.

Harry winks 1/10

You have to feel sorry for Harry, his move to Sampdoria looked like a fresh start, for the midfielder. However, things could not have gone much worse with the 26-year-old failing to make an appearance for the Italian outfit. With an ankle injury – an injury that has plagued him since 2019 – preventing him from appearing.

Winks via his Instagram confirmed he has had to undergo surgery for the problem which has led to Italian publication La Repubblica stating that Winks’ loan move may be cut short.

Sergio Reguilon 1/10

Another Spurs loanee that has seen his loan ravaged by injury is left back Sergio Reguilon. After being cast to the subs bench by Antonio Conte, Reguilon’s temporary switch to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid seemed it would be a perfect restart to his career.

However, similarly to Harry Winks, Reguilon has had to watch his side mostly from home, with the Spaniard sitting out the majority of the season with groin problem.

Reguilon’s future in Madrid is starting to become a bit brighter however, with the left-back making his first appearance of the season last week – coming on as a second half substitute in his sides 1-0 loss to Mallorca.

Troy Parrott 4/10

After an impressive loan stint at League One side MK Dons last season – in which he bagged 17 goal contributions in 47 games – Parrott took the step up to the Championship this season with Preston North End.

Sadly, for the Irishman he has not enjoyed as much success at Deepdale only managing one goal in 15 appearances. However, Parrott is not exactly playing for a side that flourishes in the final third with Preston only having scored 18 league goals so far this season, with only one side in the league scoring fewer.

Parrott’s only goal of the season was in-fact the winner in a 3-2 victory over promotion rivals Norwich City, last month. That very same game sadly saw Parrott damage his hamstring, meaning he would be out with injury until after the World Cup.

Giovani Lo Celso 4/10

When Lo Celso returned to Villareal last summer, he would have hoped to recreate some of the success he enjoyed last season – in which he helped the Yellow Submarine reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, things have not went quite as well for the Argentinian this season, with the midfielder only managing to make 8 league appearances so far this season – only contributing to one goal.

One of the key reasons for Lo Celso’s struggles is that he hasn’t been able to lock down a position – having been deployed on the left wing, right wing, centre midfield and weirdly centre forward.

Things may be on the up for Lo Celso however, as Unai Emery’s departure to Aston Villa has led to the club appointing Quique Setien as their new manager.

Lo Celso has previously thrived under Setien – when the pair were both at Real Betis – with the Argentinian becoming one of La Liga’s best midfielders under Setien’s stewardship.

Joe Rodon 7/10

Many fans were surprised to see Rodon pack his bags last summer and cross the channel, to go ply his trade for French side Rennes.

You could argue the Welshman’s decision to leave British shores has been a successful one. As since arriving in the Northwest of France, the Welshman has become a key component in a Rennes side that is flying high in the league, currently sat third in the table.

Rodon, at the time of writing, has racked up 1,258 minutes of action so far this season – which is nearly three times as many minutes he managed in the whole of last season.

The defender will hope to carry this momentum into the World Cup, with Rodon likely to start in Wales’ back five.

Destiny Udogie 8/10

One of Tottenham’s most exciting acquisitions in recent times- Udogie joined Spurs in the summer but as part of the deal he was loaned back to Udinese for the rest of the season.

Udinese will be glad Udogie returned for the rest of the season as the 19-year-old has been electric so far this season. The wing-back has contributed to three goals in 11 appearances and been a key component to Udinese’s decent start to the season.

The Tottenham fan base have grown frustrated with the club’s current options at wing-back, Udogie’s performances this season suggest he could provide the spark and quality needed.
