Levy gifted chance to sign £35m colossus as Spurs target “great leader” – Opinion

|

As Spurs and Daniel Levy potentially scour the market for reinforcements ahead of Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge, the Lilywhites may have found a perfect addition to their squad in the form of Southampton midfield colossus Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane, once described by teammate Angus Gunn as a ‘great leader‘, appears to fit the bill of a potential bargain coup with proven Premier League experience – playing a vital role in the Saints’ bid to avoid relegation whilst averaging more tackles domestically than any Spurs midfield player.

A recent report from the Daily Star hints that Levy may have been gifted the chance to acquire his signature, with now debatably being a better time than ever to swoop for the 24-year-old amid Southampton’s growing financial concerns.

Should Spurs sign Hojbjerg?

Yes, no matter the cost

No, better options out there

Indeed, according to Star reports, the south coast club face a mass exodus of big names if they fail to find a £150 million buyer by the start of this summer – with current owner Gao Jisheng looking to sell his 80 per cent stake.

Given Southampton’s perceived vulnerability, Levy has been gifted an opportunity to bring in Hojbjerg who could be the leader Spurs have been yearning for – as proven by his stats.

As well as making more challenges than the current Lilywhites midfield roster on average, Hojbjerg has also made more interceptions in that time while winning a superior amount of aerial duels compared to the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks according to WhoScored.

Only time will tell whether Levy and co decide to act on the recent development, but given the strong negotiation stance Spurs possess, it’s not unreasonable to assume we could even work to lower his £35 million price tag given Southampton’s current financial predicament.
