Latest Transfer Discussion

|

With just over a week to go until the transfer window slams shut next Thursday, September 1st, 11pm BST, plenty of movement is expected at Spurs.

Whether this movement materialises or not is another matter, but it is widely acknowledged that outgoings remain the priority, with the club still looking to move on several bodies.

Reguilon has been linked with Juventus, Lazio and Sunday’s opponents Forest this week, who have also expressed an interest in Tanganga. Moreover, Winks was reportedly close to joining Sampdoria on loan last night but is awaiting more prestigious suitors, as is the case with Reguilon and Tanganga.

Such outgoings will be mitigated with replacements if Conte’s comments via Football London are to be believed: “I was very clear in the press conference before this game.

“This squad is this and if someone goes away then another has to come.

“This has to be very clear for everybody. Otherwise, we stay with this squad and we continue our path with these players, this squad.

“But if someone has to go away, along another must come. This is very clear for me, for the club, but we are totally agreed on this aspect.”

Here, Conte was referring to Gil’s potential departure, with the Spaniard expected to rejoin Valencia on a season-long loan this week. This impending departure has seen the club linked with a plethora of wingers, such as Saint-Maximin, Traore and James. Links to Zaniolo – who dislocated his shoulder playing for Roma on Monday – are still persisting.

Following the Wolves match, many readers were still highlighting our midfield’s lack of verve. I am curious to see if readers would want the club to invest in a creative midfielder; which wide attacker you would want to replace Gil; and if another centre-back is needed if Tanganga were to leave. Overall, what would you deem a satisfactory end to the window? Discuss!

    Cheers Omar
Re the, TW would, still like a better RB, CB and creative Mid.
With that said, we’ve done, well this, TW.
I suppose can’t get all our eggs in one basket.

Cheers Niall, I’d be happy with those three, who would you ideally see us sign if you had the power to choose mate? As you say though, even if we don’t get them next week it’d still be a good window indeed.

If the players like winks, reggie, tanganga hang on for better transfer clubs, during the final week I expect time will run out, and we are stuck with them at least until Jan window. So speculation of new players is moot point. Also winks & tanganga are home grown players so it would affect the squad regulations and incoming status of players.

Yes the squad is stronger but with Bergjwin, Le Celso, Ndombele, Winks, Reguilon, Tanganga, Rodon and Sarr all left or likely to leave we are still very short.
We still no top class right wing back (wing backs are so important for Conte), we are at least one man short at centre-half, at least two short in midfield – I think we will only be left with four senior midfield players, one of whom hasn’t played for eight months – and one up front.
I say this having looked at the crazy schedule between now and the world cup.
On top of the premier league including a round of midweek fixtures there are six champions league games to play in eight weeks and an international break where most of our players will be flying half way around the world, especially the South Americans.
It is inevitable we will pick up injuries and possibly suspensions in this period.
If we seriously want to compete for titles I believe we need to address these areas in the next week.

Hey Donny, good post there, probably very true but it still brings us to the….we will have to wait and see scenario!
Anything can happen in the next few weeks!

I expect there is a lot of working hard behind the scenes, you know Spurs, keeping everything they can close. COYS

I’m with you on that one Doncaster, the squad has undoubtedly increased in quality but with those departures we’re wanting in terms of quantity in quality, or strength in depth as it’s most commonly referred to. Last season we had depth until January, but no strength in that depth, then, as Conte said, once we signed Kulusevski and Bentancur but sold Alli, loaned Lo Celso, Gil and Ndombele, the squad improved in terms of quality but weakened in terms of numbers. We’re in a similar predicament now, but not as dire of course. Although our bench is excellent this year the areas you’ve mentioned there can certainly be improved, and a couple of injuries/suspensions would see us back to square one in such a hectic year with internationals etc.

Pompey – thank you. I hope you and your wife are well. Yes, I agree, there must be a lot going on behind the scenes. With all the outgoings, there must be some coming in as well.

Hey Donny, thanks for asking, we are going along best we can, Mrs PY and her ailment RSD/CRPS doesn’t help!

Hope you and your family are doing well also. COYS

    100% analysis Donny
    My thoughts exactly
We are a RB, CB, and midfield short at present.
Are we marking time until the right names come up in January???
