It Wasn’t About Revenge For Spurs But We Got It Anyway – Stats

|

Earlier this evening Tottenham Hotspur went into battle for the second time in only a few weeks against London rivals Arsenal, and although the Gunnars got the better of us in the Premier League, we made our point in the EFL Cup tie well enough.

It wasn’t a corker of a game, it was tight and could’ve swung the other way, but with Son Heung-Min opening the scoring 20 minutes in, we dug deep and gave ourselves a two-goal cushion just ahead of the hour mark as Dele Alli found the back of the net.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery had called on his team to tighten up at the back, but at least for these 90 minutes they must have thought they were Manchester United listening to Jose Mourinho bang on about ‘special’ things, as they clearly didn’t listen.

For those who like a stat, the fixture became the most played in League Cup history (14 times – Arsenal v Liverpool) but the only stat that matters is we are in the semi-final draw for the first time since 2014/15.

Shame the bottle incident will dominate headlines but there’s always one – all clubs have them in football, unfortunately.
