Injury blow as Tottenham man could miss Manchester City clash, player is ‘being assessed’

|

Tottenham confirmed on Thursday that Erik Lamela is an injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Manchester City. The 27-year-old is currently ‘being assessed’ prior to the trip to the Etihad Stadium, having struggled with a hamstring injury for a number of weeks.

Lamela’s last Premier League appearance for Tottenham was against Arsenal on March 2. He was left on the bench in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Southampton (March 9) and was out of the matchday squad against Liverpool (March 31), Crystal Palace (April 3) and Huddersfield Town (April 13).

The Argentine international was expected to return to the bench against Manchester City in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, but he’d failed to fully recover in time. Whether he’ll be passed fit to face the Sky Blues in the league remains to be seen, with Lamela no stranger to injury setbacks.

He’s made 31 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season, scoring and creating nine goals. Lamela has made only 18 appearances in the league, 10 of which have come from the bench, and has racked up less than 900 minutes of playing time.

The wide-man was unlikely to start against City on Saturday, but he could be useful as an impact player.
