“I Can Kill It Now” – Mourinho Shoots Down Fresh January Departure Speculation At Spurs

|

With reports earlier in the week claiming that young Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth would be angling for a loan move in the New Year when the January transfer window opened, so he could secure more regular game time, manager Jose Mourinho has categorically ruled that out.

Since his arrival back in the late summer of 2017, the 21-year-old Argentine international hasn’t had great game time really, and he’s only made five appearances so far during the 2019/20 campaign, but it seems Mourinho was impressed with his efforts in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last midweek.

Speaking to Sky Sports, our Portuguese gaffer categorically ruled out a departure next month, believing he has his part to play in squad for the remainder of the year.

Mourinho also believes, like Mauricio Pochettino did, that Foyth’s future could well see him appear more often at right back.

“At the moment, the players that went to Munich with us are part of our squad, so I don’t think there will be many doors open for players to get out on loan. If you want to be more direct like some media that was saying Foyth was one of them – I can kill it now. No chance. If you want to speak about some of the other younger players, let’s analyse the situation. We will make the best decisions for the players and for us too. Foyth was very stable, solid, calm. He played very well. Is he going to start Sunday? No. But I am really happy with his performance.”

As for the right back issue, he added.

“That depends what you want from a right-back. If you want one that plays like Aurier then no. Aurier plays like a winger and Juan can’t play as a winger. If you want to play more closed inside, more positional, more balance to the team defensively then I think he can. He is intelligent and holds the ball well.”

Is Foyth's Future At Right Back?
