Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino gave Davison Sanchez another crack at the heart of defence in Wednesday evening’s penalty victory over Watford in the third round of the EFL Cup.
With it being a mixed performance from the squad with the likes of Victor Wanyama given minutes to build his fitness after a lengthy lay-off, Spurs did lack some punch and stability with Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen given the 90 minutes off but Davison definitely had a mixed game and he continues to struggle for the form he showed in his first year with us.
Nobody is really writing him off just yet though and nor should they. The 22-year-old wouldn’t be the first player to struggle in their second year – and he did, of course, have World Cup exploits over the summer out in Russia to contend with as well.
That really wasn’t a good performance. Soooo many stupid mistakes, especially Sanchez who looks a different player this year. We were one dubious penalty away from going out there… #Spurs #COYS

For a bug bloke Sanchez doesn't half get bullied on the ball #weak #COYS

Think I can spot the difference between a player in poor form and a player who's just poor. Ben Davies and Sanchez are in the first group, they'll get out of it. #COYS #THFC

You also have to factor in his age, consistency is still the next development step and he’ll definitely have bad periods like everyone.
