Explained: Who is Tottenham’s first summer signing?

|

Tottenham completed their first signing of the summer on Tuesday, with Isak Solberg putting pen to paper on a three-year deal. The Norwegian didn’t command a transfer fee and will have to wait until his 16th birthday next month before his contract begins.

Solberg is highly rated, having impressed in two separate trials at Tottenham six months ago, so he could have a bright future with the Lilywhites. The goalkeeper stands at 6ft 2in at the age of 15 and will now develop in the Tottenham academy, with a view to progressing through the youth ranks.

Supporters will be desperate to see a first-team signing made this summer, but Solberg could becoming a familiar name in the future. Tottenham are placing a lot of faith in the teenager and have already agreed a professional contract and wage increase for the shot-stopper when he reaches the third year of his deal.

Isak is the son of former Byrne goalkeeping coach Thomas Solberg and was represented by Jim Solbakken – a friend of Ole Gunnar Solskjær – during the negotiations with Tottenham. He will be a contracted youth player in June and could be one to watch in the coming years. He’ll have Hugo Lloris to learn from.
