Adrien Rabiot is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after falling out of favour at the Parc des Princes. The 24-year-old was exiled from the first-team in December after refusing to sign a new deal with PSG and has struggled with indiscipline in the months that followed.
Tottenham were linked with Rabiot earlier in the season before Barcelona neared a deal for the midfielder, but Spanish outlet Sport have revealed that the Lilywhites are back in the race for his signature. Despite being a free transfer this summer, Rabiot won’t come cheap.
The French international has requested a salary of £8.72m-a-year/£167k-per-week which has put off a number of clubs. Rabiot’s indiscipline may also be a worry. He’s spent six months out of the first-team, with his last PSG appearance coming against RC Strasbourg Alsace on December 5, 2018, so a move away looks a certainty.
Whether Tottenham win the race remains to be seen, however. Rabiot would be the second highest-earner in the squad if his salary demands are met. Spurs will save money from the lack of a transfer fee, but £8.7m-a-year is a gamble on a player whose relationship with the club and his teammates has crumbled.
