Explained: Tottenham would have to pay £113m and £26m wages to sign Real Madrid man

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Gareth Bale, with the 29-year-old having an uncertain future at Real Madrid. Bale remains a regular with Los Blancos, but he’s been on the end of vitriol from supporters and has a strained relationship with head coach Zinedine Zidane. The wide-man is being tipped to return to England this summer as a result. He won’t come cheap, however.

According to AS (h/t Daily Mail), Real have slapped a £113m asking price on Bale’s head. The Welsh international would request £26m-a-year/£500k-per-week in wages too. Tottenham’s highest-earner is Harry Kane on £10.4m-a-year/£200k-per-week, so it’s hard to see Bale being offered 250% of the Englishman’s salary to return to the club.

The former Southampton man has scored 102 goals and made 63 assists in 227 appearances at Real. Since the 2013-move, Bale has won four Champions League trophies, one Liga title and one Copa Del Rey. He’s been a success in Spain but his relationship with Zidane and the supporters could lead to a departure in the coming weeks.

Bale’s valuation is a problem, however, as not many clubs can meet his and Real’s demands. Tottenham certainly won’t pay so much money for a soon-to-be 30-year-old with a long history of injury problems.
