Explained: Tottenham may have to pay £60m and £2.1m wages to sign Barcelona man

|

According to Marca (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham are still showing an interest in Malcom who could be available this summer after a failed debut campaign at Barcelona. The 22-year-old snub Spurs and others to make the switch to Barca from Girondins Bordeaux in July 2018 and has gone on to make 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Malcom hasn’t scored a goal in La Liga this season and has found himself on the periphery since the turn of the year. The uncapped Brazilian forward has made only eight league appearances (129 minutes) for Barcelona, three of which came in 2019. The former Corinthians man is expected to be moved on this summer and Tottenham could capitalise on the situation.

Barcelona paid £37m to sign Malcom last summer, but Marca say the wide-man could cost £60m. He currently earns £2.1m-a-year/£40k-per-week at the Camp Nou which wouldn’t break the bank for Tottenham. It’s just his reported asking price that is ludicrous.

No club would pay such a lofty fee given his woeful form in Spain, so Barca will have to lower their demands if they want to sell him.
