Opinion: Key Tottenham player could stay, Real Madrid duo may be the reason why

|

Real Madrid have been linked with Christian Eriksen and are being tipped to make a move for the Tottenham forward this summer. His future at Spurs is uncertain as his contract expires in 2020 and he’s no closer to signing an extension, but his next destination may not be the Santiago Bernabeu despite the reports.

Real’s interest in Eriksen appears to be linked with the uncertain future of Isco. The 26-year-old has been short of form and playing time this season and was tipped to leave before Zinedine Zidane returned. Isco has made more appearances under Zidane (46 goals/assists in 115 games) than any other manager in his career and could now stay at Real.

Tottenham do still have a problem with Eriksen, however, with his contract having just over a year remaining. The 27-year-old could stay this summer if a club doesn’t match his asking price, but Daniel Levy will risk losing him for nothing if he does stay without signing a new deal.

Real might not put Tottenham under pressure to sell, but a decision still needs to be made whether to cash in early or try to tie him down to an extension.
