Explained: The latest on Giovani Lo Celso and all the games he could miss for Tottenham

|

Tottenham gave another injury update on Giovani Lo Celso ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash, revealing the midfielder is still continuing his rehabilitation from a hip injury. The 23-year-old is out of action this weekend and is likely to be joined by Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) after having irritation in his leg.

Lo Celso has only racked up 44 minutes of football in the league, but his ongoing absence is a blow while Christian Eriksen struggles for consistency. The 27-year-old delivered a poor performance in the Champions League on Wednesday and came under a lot of criticism from supporters. Mauricio Pochettino could give the nod to Erik Lamela or Heung-min Son in his stead.

As for Lo Celso, he likely won’t return until November and could miss another eight games in the coming weeks – Leicester City (Premier League) on September 21, Colchester United (EFL Cup) on September 24, Southampton (Premier League) on September 28, Bayern Munich (Champions League) on October 1, Brighton & Hove Albion (Premier League) on October 5, Watford (Premier League) on October 19, FK Crvena Zvezda (Champions League) on October 22 and Liverpool (Premier League) on October 27.

Lo Celso’s debut season at Tottenham hasn’t gone to plan, but he’ll be hoping he can make an impact during the second half of the campaign.
