Tottenham suffered a 2-1 defeat at Burnley on Saturday afternoon and Serge Aurier was one of many underperforming players on the day who bore a lot of criticism from supporters. The 26-year-old has divided fans since his move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, but his performance against the Clarets led to a unanimous opinion on social media.
2 changed made by the manager have cost us the game !!! Once again Aurier proves he is a donkey, and Foyth is not good enough yet?!!! Shocking…. #Spursy #COYS #THFC

Not one player had a decent game today. Sissoko, Foyth and Aurier in particular but poor all round. Just the small matter of Chelsea and Arsenal to come in the next week #THFC

It’s what we get for playing three defenders who can’t head against a long ball team! Aurier, Rose and Foyth are absolutely shocking #THFC

Foyth & Aurier should never be in the starting eleven together again for @SpursOfficial
Both are a liability, Foyth can’t defend and Aurier can’t defend or cross a ball.
Saying that, Burnley were fantastic and finished the game as they started. Bad day boys. #THFC

Against Burnley, Aurier made 84 touches, 45 passes with a 75.6% completion rate, four dribbles and four tackles. The right-back completed only one of six crosses whipped in and failed to find a teammate with any of his four long passes. Aurier’s form has left a lot to be desired this season and his future may be in doubt unless he can improve. Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters are waiting in the wings for an opportunity.
The Ivorian international has made 41 appearances for Spurs but hasn’t convinced many that he deserves to start ahead of his competition. He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal but may not see out his contract at this rate. Aurier didn’t prove his worth to Pochettino against Burnley, so Trippier might edge himself back into the reckoning for their next game.
