Heung-min Son wasn’t at his best in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley and was criticised by supporters on social media. The 26-year-old has been in a rich vein of scoring form in recent weeks, netting 11 goals in his last 14 league appearances, but he struggled to make an impact at Turf Moor.
Son previously earned plaudits from players, pundits and fans, but he’s now in the firing line as Tottenham’s title hopes took a massive hit. Against Burnley, the South Korean international made 43 touches, 27 passes with 89% accuracy, three chances and four dribbles and was substituted late on despite Spurs chasing a goal.
Eriksen and Son awful today. Poch got it wrong with his opening tactics, then made poor decisions on his adjustments. Sissoko made no meaningful runs. Toby made no meaningful diagonal passes. This was just a bad, bad effort all the way around by @SpursOfficial. #coys #thfc

Love Pochettino but he had to take responsibility today. Hard to think of a worse game to play Foyth than Burnley away with the sun in his eyes. Then we lost our shape after all the subs and actually looked worse. Son was awful throughout too. #THFC #spurs

The former Bayer Leverkusen forward has scored 63 goals in 173 games in all competitions since joining Tottenham in 2015 and has been outstanding in his last three Premier League campaigns – 14 goals in 2016/17, 12 goals in 2017/18, 11 goals in 2018/19.
Son wasn’t at his best against Burnley and some fans suggested that Harry Kane’s return may have been to blame. Tottenham boasted a 100% record from the four league games played without Kane, and Son had netted in the last three. That all came to a head over the weekend, however.
