“Doesn’t Make Any Sense” – Mourinho Slams The Door On Spurs Transfer Speculation

|

With the arrival of Jose Mourinho as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement at Tottenham Hotspur last week, it didn’t take long for the rumour mill to suggest that he could go back in for star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic given the 38-year-old has now departed MLS side LA Galaxy.

The former Swedish international needs little introduction in football and he’s probably spoken about himself in the third person at all his former clubs, and he does know Mourinho pretty well from the time they’ve spent together at both Inter Milan and most recently, Manchester United.

With the speculation about our apparent interest in him starting to grow, our new gaffer killed the rumours over the weekend when asked about them after his opening win in charge against West Ham United.

Quoted by the Daily Star (amongst many others) Mourinho distanced himself from any move, pointing to Harry Kane and simply wanting to get the best out of him.

“I would say we have one of the top strikers in England. It doesn’t make any sense of a striker of Zlatan’s dimension to come to a club where we have Harry Kane.”

Until he signs elsewhere, I wouldn’t expect the speculation to go away but Zlatan thinks too much of himself (arguably rightly given his career) to play second fiddle to anyone, so this has always been a none starter for me.
