Giovani Lo Celso’s name has been touted heavily over the past few weeks in regards to a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur, however, fans on Twitter were not impressed with what they saw from him with his performance for Argentina on Saturday night.
The BBC claimed last month that we made a bid of around €60million (£53m) for the playmaker, but that was flat out rejected by Real Betis as they want an offer closer to their €100m (£88m) release clause.
However, going by the 90 minutes he put in on the pitch in their opening Copa America group match with Colombia, many Spurs fans found it extremely hard to be able to justify spending that amount on him.
In truth, Lo Celso was not the only poor footballer on the pitch as Argentina were hardly at the races, but he did not appear to have any influence on the game and really struggled to get to grips with it.
Many of us will be expecting to see a lot more from him on Wednesday night when they take on Paraguay in their next group game as spending a fortune on him will undoubtedly be a huge risk and something the club needs to be sure about.
Taking to Twitter following his performance against Colombia, plenty of the fans questioned if the 23-year-old was worth the amount of money being asked for him, whilst others were simply not impressed with what they saw over the 90 minutes. Here are some of their reactions…
Lo Celso clearly not worth £70 million #COYS #ARGvCOL #ARGCOL

Lo Celso was not very impressive in that half. But, to be fair, nobody was. #CopaAmerica2019 #COYS

I just watched La Celso play for Argentina ???????? and to be honest I wasn’t that impressed … not the quickest and didn’t see a lot , but in saying that he’s a Lamela who scores goals I think spend money on Ndombele 70m for La celso Is to much .. just my opinion that’s all #COYS

Daniel Levy told Lo Celso to drop a disasterclass so Real Betis would drop his price tag. Tactical from the egg head once again

Ok so Lo Celso, what does he bring? What I saw from him in the copa America game was poor. He defended more than attacked and never created anything. He played wide a lot and I’m not sure that’s his spot. Lots of mistakes. Let’s hope other games go better!! #coys
