Conte on Saints victory

|

Antonio Conte expressed his satisfaction to the media following Spurs’ 4-1 victory over Saints earlier today. Speaking to Sky Sports via BBC Football, this is what the Tottenham boss had to say:

“It was a good performance for the final result because we got three points but especially because we deserved to win. We created many chances and I like the way we had the possession and the way he pressed very high and the way we tried to win the ball again when we lost possession. There were a lot of situations that we working with on the team.

“The message was very clear that we’ve signed new players to improve our squad because our squad was really poor last season and the Champions League spot was a big achievement. Our first goal was to improve the squad, not just players physically but also mentally. We wanted the right players for my philosophy and today I preferred to use players from last season because they are reliable than new players because we’ve only spent two weeks with some of those players because of injuries and Covid. We’ve used common sense to pick the players that have the right characteristics to improve our squad. We have to work to improve and we have an ambition to make ourselves better than yesterday.

“Being happy or not happy was not the problem. It was finding a solution to playing four competitions – to do this you need a squad of 20-22 players and honestly last season was really poor in the medical aspect. We have improved that aspect. The club always pays attention – they have shown common sense, not only to spend money, but to get players with certain characteristics to improve the squad.”

    Thanks Omar for the thread
Great win, fantastic result, just where we should be, top of the league
Keep it up HT nearly right again with the score. 😂

Great comments from Conte. He recognised we had a poor squad overall and has sidelined the unwanted and brought in some much more accomplished players. Our bench today was top drawer instead of bench warmers like last season. There will be competition for places and it seems as though Sessegnon and Emerson Royal have already responded with good games today.
Just need to get rid of the unwanted before August 31st.

Great performance and result. The only omg moment was that lunge by Romero. I thought he was off but didn’t even get a yellow. ??

Great atmosphere at the ground, I think the introduction of the standing section has increased the volume. Sessegnon was impressive, he really could become a tremendous wing back. I don’t think Emerson is a wing back, but he played well today. He didn’t try to take men on, just looked for space to run into. Southampton did leave space both sides of the pitch.

I just wish we would cut out this slow start routine we seem to go in for. There was no reason to give Southampton a goal start but we did. Against a better team it might have been a lot harder to get back into the game.

Great performance yesterday, watched the match on Sky’s Game of Day.

Conte got it right, rewarding the lads who got us 4th to start the first game of this season, and judging by the improvements in some, they are looking over their shoulders at a very bloody strong bench, 1st time in how long?

We scored 4, my prediction 4-0, but alas WP scored a fluke for me, though maybe Royal should have stopped the cross and maybe Hoj should have been nearer to him, but alas they did score

Son was very MMMM! he should have got a hattrick, plus laid one off for HK to score, but hey its August lol!

    My MOM’s
    1 Kulu
    2 Bents
    3 Sess

Great win in the end though. COYS
