Christian Eriksen reveals if failed contract talks with Spurs are leading to less game time

|

Christian Eriksen played down any suggestion that his recent lack of playing minutes are as a result of his failed contract talks with Tottenham Hotspur. The 26-year-old has racked up just 581 minutes of Premier League football this season and has been dropped for Spurs’ last four league outings.

Eriksen was injured in late-September until mid-October so his lack of minutes aren’t too surprising. However, there had been claims that his delay in extending his deal with Spurs was being punished by Pochettino – something he denied to Danish outlet BT.

When asked if he feels the struggles with negotiations are leading to less minutes at Tottenham, he said: “You must ask the coach about that. I don’t know that. I have not felt that they would throw me out yet. It’s a business for the club, but it’s not something I’ve thought about.”

The Danish international has scored and created 130 goals in 239 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham since his move from Ajax in 2013. Eriksen’s deal with Spurs expires in 2020 so the club won’t be losing him next summer if they fail to make progress with contract talks.

They’ll just be left with a decision at the end of the season whether or not to sell or try to tie him down to an extension. Nevertheless, he should return to the Tottenham first-team after the international break which may put an end to this story.
