Celtic midfielder emerges as unlikely Tottenham transfer target

|

Following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, the abandonment of the European Super League and of course the COVID-19 pandemic, Spurs are not likely to have much spare money for an abundance of expensive transfers.

The scouting team have been tasked of finding players who could be available on the cheap and will also strengthen the squad greatly.

One player reportedly identified to be available for little and can provide cover in midfield is Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro, who despite playing very little under former manager Neil Lennon, is believed by the Spurs staff to have high potential.

The 22-year-old has played just 20 times this season in all competitions, scoring once after arriving the season before from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda.

Soro, who has played in Moldova, Belarus and Israel before joining Celtic for Β£2 million, is a like a mix of Victor Wanyama and N’golo Kante due to his aggressiveness in the middle of the park to win the ball back, as well as his engine to carry the team from defence into attack as well as making vital interceptions.

The question has to be though whether or not he is ready to come to a club like Spurs, who are desperate for trophies, especially as he hasn’t had the desired effect at Celtic as of yet despite their fans rating him highly.

Another issue surrounding this potential transfer would be his work permit issues, and it will be necessary for Spurs to go through the appeal process to obtain one for Soro should he join.

The deal would likely see the end of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks’ time at Spurs, as Soro could be available for Β£5-10 million while the Spurs duo could be sold for a combined Β£30 million, and with Oliver Skipp coming back from his loan spell at Norwich, the current Spurs midfield duo could be deemed surplus to requirements.

Furthermore, Harvey White is also viewed as a future Spurs first team midfielder, and after impressing for Spurs during his Europa League appearance off the bench as well as doing well on-loan in the second half of the season at Portsmouth, he could remain at Spurs and become a regular in cup games to help fill in the void should Winks and Sissoko be sold.
