Boost: Tottenham man’s return is exactly what Pochettino needs as season heats up

|

Nobody could have predicted the season that Tottenham have had this year. There has been more twists and turns than we would have liked, but it could yet still emerge as our greatest campaign in years.

That’s because, of course, a top-four challenge is still in our hands, whilst our heroic run to the Champions League semi-final could also continue in pursuit of a famous cup win. In order for those goals to be achieved, however, we’ll need the squad to be at full strength, and fortunately, the return of Eric Dier has come at the perfect time.

He’s recently been discussing his return and how glad he is to be back, and it’s left us feeling grateful, as it’s fair to say that he could have a huge impact for us between now and the end of the season.

After all, we’ve been quite inconsistent in recent weeks, and Dier could help to offer exactly what we need. He’s a solid, robust tackler with a focus on the defensive side of the game; and that phase of play is what’s let us down over the last few weeks.

Furthermore, whilst the final games of the season are upon us, both the intensity and the expectation that will be on the shoulders of the players mean that rotation will still be needed. As such, Dier will help to take the weight off of some of our midfielders like Victor Wanyama, who’s had his own fitness problems this season.

Eric Dier has been underrated during his time in north London, but his true value is likely to emerge in the coming weeks. He can have a big role to play in what could be a tenure-defining few weeks for Mauricio Pochettino.
