“Blessed and Proud” – Pierluigi Gollini ecstatic after Spurs move

Pierluigi Gollini was officially announced as a Spurs player today, in a deal which will be an initial one-season loan with an option to make it permanent.

The Italian goalkeeper was extremely happy to be in North London and sign his contract, where he will learn under Hugo Lloris over the course of the next season before most likely taking over from the club captain with his deal set to expire in June next year.

“This is an amazing feeling,” said Gollini, in his first official interview after completing the transfer.

“I’m very happy for this opportunity. It’s a massive club, a very good chance for me, a big chance. I’m really blessed and proud to be here. I’m so happy just to be part of this club and to join this team of great players.”

There is also a clause in the deal to trigger a permanent transfer as soon as Gollini reaches a certain number of appearances – which he could amass in the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League.

“I’m young, but not too young, and I’m here to show that I can be the future of Tottenham,” said the keeper.

“Obviously, now I’m here with Hugo and I have huge respect for him. He is a legend of this club, captain, world champion. For me, it’s a privilege, an honour to work with him and to train with him, and I’m sure I can learn a lot from him.

“When I look at this team and this group of guys, I think the squad is really, really good and I think, as a team, we have to be really ambitious. We should try to win something, because it’s a big team, a big club and winning has to be the goal.”

Gollini may also be joined at Spurs by former teammate with Atalanta, Cristian Romero, who is edging closer to a sensational transfer to Spurs masterminded by Fabio Paratici.
