World Cup goalkeeping hero Gordan Banks has come out in support of the current England Number One and Spurs shot stopper Paul Robinson
He said: ‘Paul has done well over the last two years and has done a great job for England. He is more consistent now. Everybody makes mistakes but he is not making mistakes too often. He has shown that the defence can look up to him now and they will be feeling more confident. He has to be the one who plays and I’m sure Sven-Goran Eriksson must know that.’
Robinson has been an ever present for Spurs this season with 30 appearances.
Banks also thinks England have a great chance of going all the way for the first time since 1966 adding:
‘It is our best chance in a long time. For three of them it will be their third World Cup, which is a lot of experience. We have good players and we have a good chance.’
