1 Shot, 96.2% Pass Accuracy Sees Spurs Man Lift MotM On Another Disappointing Group Stage European Night

|

It was another mixed European night for Tottenham Hotspur as we got our 2019/20 Champions League campaign underway with a trip out to Greek side Olympiakos on Wednesday evening.

It was a mixed game statistics wise when you look at possession and efforts on goal, although the home side did create more overall.

What had mattered though was a brighter start gave Spurs a 2-0 lead following a 26th minute penalty from Harry Kane, and an effort from Lucas Moura and we had the clear advantage by the half hour mark. With the hosts getting a goal back a minute before the half time break, we couldn’t restore the 2-0 advantage and they characteristically levelled matters up with a penalty of their own 54 minutes in and with no further goals on the day, we opened the Group battle with a point.

For most fans, the headline was ‘capitulated a two goal lead’ though, sadly.

Statistics website Whoscored may have handed Daniel Podence their star man award for his performance, but obviously, Lucas Moura took our Man of the Match in their system with a score of 7.60.

Completing the top five on the day were Harry Kane (7.24), Tanguy Ndombele (6.97), Christian Eriksen (6.67) and Ben Davies (6.61).

Not what we wanted, but a point away from home is a point.
