WSL Preview: Brighton vs Spurs

|

Tottenham Hotspur women travel to Crawley Town’s Broadfield Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion women this afternoon, 2 PM kick-off BST. The match is available on FA Player.

Under former England manager Hope Powell, Brighton have secured consecutive mid-table finishes in the WSL, finishing 6th in 2020/21 and then 7th last season.

However, the hosts have endured a difficult start to life this season, with their solitary victory in all competitions being a 2-1 home win over strugglers Reading. In their other 3 league matches, they have lost 4-0 to Arsenal (just as Spurs did), 4-0 again to Manchester United, and 2-0 to Chelsea. They have also been knocked out of the Continental Cup by Birmingham City.

Nevertheless, only 3 points and 2 league places separate the two sides, with Spurs lying in 8th on 6 points, and Brighton lying in 10th on 3 points, and head coach Rehanne Skinner spoke to the club of the tough test Brighton will pose of Spurs this afternoon:

“Brighton are a tough test. They’ve had a lot of changes to their squad this year as well. There’s been differences within each game that they’ve played, so we’re preparing for some different elements from them.

“I thought they played very well against Chelsea last week and that’s shown the progress within what they’re trying to achieve.”

Regarding injuries, Ellie Brazil misses out against her former club with an ACL injury she picked up in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City, but she is the only known absentee from Spurs’ squad, with Kerys Harrop expected to make her return from injury.
