“Would be a great signing” – Ex-Spurs star implores Levy to bag “top class” addition

|

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Spurs favourite Paul Robinson has urged the club, and by extension Daniel Levy, to initiate a proposed swap deal between Tanguy Ndombele and Samuel Umtiti – with the 40-year-old pundit going on to claim the Barcelona defender ‘would be a great signing‘.

A recent Sky Sports report indicated that Barcelona are interested in a swoop for Spurs midfielder Ndombele, so much so that they are prepared to offer defenders Umtiti and Nelson Semedo in a bid to secure his services.

Should Spurs swap Ndombele for Umtiti?

Absolutely, get it done

No, give Ndombele time

Due to the recent pandemic, Barcelona are unlikely to offer a lump sum and have instead contemplated a straight swap deal – with ex-Tottenham keeper Robinson going on to insist that this would be a good bit of business for us.

Robinson, who started 137 Premier League games for the Lilywhites over a club spell lasting just past four years, now delivers his insight as a pundit – with his latest opinion being that Umtiti would be an ‘outstanding‘ addition for Spurs.

Umtiti has started just nine La Liga matches for the Catalans this campaign, picking up four bookings, but the Frenchman does boast a noteworthy 92.6% passing accuracy according to WhoScored.

Compared to our current roster, Umtiti has also made more interceptions on average in the league than any other Spurs player this season – potentially reinforcing Robinson’s point that he would be a worthy addition.

“Umtiti would be outstanding for Spurs. If Barcelona are willing to let him go as part of a deal I think he would be a great signing for Tottenham. Experienced, top-class defender,” explained the pundit to Football Insider.

“They have struggled at the back this year and have conceded too many goals and they are goals they should not concede.

“If Umtiti is available I would take him, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Judging by our former shot-stopper’s enthusiasm over a potential deal, it’s hard to argue that a swoop wouldn’t hold some benefits, especially considering there would be no money exchanged according to Sky.
