“Wolves were relentless, but we showed more” – Nuno

|

Spurs continued their 100% start to the season with a win against Wolves on new boss Nuno Espirito Santo’s return to Molineux.

A penalty from Dele Alli was enough to secure the three points for Spurs, who remained resilient throughout despite the relentless attacking from the home side.

It was a tough fought victory for Nuno’s men, and the coach was very happy with the performances from each of the players.

“Yes, this action of Dele [scoring the penalty], and the actions of many more [helped us win],” he said.

“We defended well against a tough team that can cause problems, but in the final situations we managed to keep a clean sheet, Hugo did amazing, the boys did amazing, hard work.”

Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Harry Kane all had opportunities to put the game to bed, but fortunately Wolves couldn’t find their way past the brick wall set-up in Spurs’ backline.

“We had the chance to kill the game, we didn’t do it, and then it’s until the last minutes bodies in front of the ball to take what we came here for,” continued Nuno.

“You have to stay concentrated. Molineux is a tough place. We started well, good dynamics, but then we lost a little control. They are relentless, but we showed more, I think. I’m very proud of the team because we went until the end. We knew it was going to be a hard task and the boys did amazing.

“We are trying to be solid, compact and the good games will come, the good situations will come.”

Club captain Hugo Lloris also made his 300th appearance for the club, and he celebrated the achievement with a clean sheet too, while it was a big day for the gaffer who made his return to the club who he gave so much.

“It was an emotional day, of course. It was a long time, four years, and there is only love and respect I have for this club.” said Nuno.

Next up for Spurs is Pacos de Ferreira at home, where the team will need to overturn a 1-0 deficit in order to secure qualification to the next stage of the Europa Conference League.
