“When the level is high, we struggle” Conte reacts to dismal Old Trafford display

|

Spurs manager Antonio Conte has stated his players did not have “the war” inside of them as they slumped to a dismal 2-0 defeat away at Old Trafford.

The Lilywhites delivered their worst performance of the season so far – making it a comfortable night for the home side.

Conte spoke on his players performance:

“In this type of game you need to arrive and not make big mistakes. You need to arrive with the war inside of you, ready to fight a war and you need to know at the end of the game you die or your opponent died. From the start we didn’t match this aspect. We can improve and we need to continue to work. It’s right with the club to analyse with the club why when the level is very high we are struggling.

The Lilywhites offered very little and were lucky to be level at half-time. Fans were hoping for better in the second half however matters only got worse as in the 47th minute, Fred’s deflected effort nestled into the bottom corner.

Spurs never seemed as if they could equalise, and the game was done and dusted when MOTM Bruno Fernandes smartly curled his effort into the far corner to make it 2-0.

Despite the woeful display from the side, it took until the 82nd minute for Conte to make his first change – which surprised and frustrated many Spurs fans.

Conte on those substitutions:

“With Kulusevski and Richarlison out injured it was difficult to change the game. With Lucas and his tendon we are trying to keep balance, we are trying not to push him too much. We don’t want again as he had a setback two weeks ago.

The solution to the bench today we played with the three midfielders and only had the two strikers. We have many young players, this game are difficult for all players and for young players much more difficult.”

    Two reasons we struggle:-
    1) We have an out of date coach who is rigid and very poor at using subs..

    2) We have an inadequate squad with no creative players, wingers or decent wing backs.

Just look at the squads yesterday.. the Man U. subs bench and all the unavailable players waiting to return. We have no decent game changers waiting to come on. We have no youngsters being allowed to break through. We have a tight fisted chairman who interferes with transfers.
Our current style of play is dismal and boring. When we play decent teams we get turned over easily and can’t compete. Last night’s miserable performance showed up all the weaknesses in our club. The very late subs looked pathetic and demoralised.
Hopefully, Conte will be prancing back to Italy to rejoin his family.
He is not the coach that Spurs deserve.

    Very poor result last nite
    2nd to every ball
Our play out from the back is terrible
Too slow, no movement up front, no one can find space, no slick two touch passing, I’ll stop now.
There was no passion from our players, we looked like, we were playing for a draw, and indeed playing with too much fear and respect for the opponents.
Is this where we really are?
, Better than the also rans, but worse than our peers.
It does look like we are the worst of a good bunch
And the brand of football whilst away, is a terrible watch.
If you let a team have 20 odd shots, one or two will probably go in.
Looks like we’re only good against bad /lesser teams and even then only at home.

Very good post there Niall, just about sums it up…
We are and have been for many years now…rabbits in headlamps.
MU were up for it, why the hell are we never up for it and haven’t been for many seasons now.

Wentworth, I quote you…Conte isn’t the coach Spurs deserve, that may be so, you could be right there…so I have to ask who is this coach we deserve?

I honestly believe it’s almost the same ole same ole group of players…rotting us through out.
Lloris, Dier, Davies, Son n Kane, just to name 5, all from the old school.

Some good signings who are being broken…Romero, Spence, Hoj, Bents, Bissouma, Kulu, might be a couple of others.

A clear out is needed, thus starting again, but who I ask? to do this.

I am a very disgruntled fan. COYS

15 attempts in 30 minutes. Changes needed to be made at HT, conte needed to be ruthless and sub off one the stars.

Spurs we’re completely overrun in the middle with Bissouma in the game as the extra midfielder. So this time we can’t pin the problem on being outmanned there as there were three to fight for the ball. Besides the fact that MU have better talent there they also fought harder to constantly win possession of the ball. We were then pinned back and it became a firing range of constant shots on our goal which Lloris was brilliant to keep the scoreline down. Spurs have to be the team which plays harder with more determination to win every battle. We can’t be the more passive side against these top teams.
