Rumours are increasing that Manchester United are looking to bring in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as the preferred striker over Tottenham’s ‘moody’ Bulgarian.

Though there has been Talk of a deal in the pipeline for Berbatov to United, there is renewed speculation that Sir Alex Ferguson would prefer the younger and cheaper option of the Dutchman over the Spurs man.

Ajax have already secured a replacement for Huntelaar with the signing of Serbian, Miralem Sulejmani this week for £12.9 million, after accepting that the time is right to cash in.

Huntelaar has told Ajax he wants to move and has openly courted a move to United and other top sides, with his recent comments.

‘I love clubs with great history like Ajax. I also love United. It`s a club that makes me dream, especially as Ruud van Nistelrooy played there and did great things with them. I know certain English clubs are following me, like Manchester United, who are very interested in me.’

A move for Huntelaar would be a far easier move for United while also being more popular with their supporters who are divided on the signing of Berbatov, at 24 he represents far better long term value and is still to come into his prime, plus it would be expected his fee and personal terms would suit the United money men better and his personality would suit the team better.

If United don’t go for Berbatov, where does this leave him for next season? There hardly seems a long queue of clubs waiting for his signature.

It can not be disputed that he could walk into any of the worlds top sides on ability, but it seems that clubs are either unwilling to spend the money or are put off by his dour image.

If I could wave a magic wand I would have Berbatov stay at the Lane (with a smile on his face of course) Do we think this is getting a more realistic prospect and what are the chances of his accepting this and knuckling down and playing his best for Spurs next season?

I was going to suggest playing with a smile, but that would be asking to much surely……..
