Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with another winger this week, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann.
The 26-year-old uncapped German doesn’t seem to have set the world of football alight in his career so far according to statistics website Soccerbase although he is in good form in 2018/19, scoring six times and assisting seven in just 15 appearances.
One great season doesn’t make a sensible transfer target though, certainly not at his age.
Quite why that record has encouraged German outlet SportBild to claim that we are now in talks for the player is a little beyond me, and maybe it’s been lost in translation, but subsequent claims that we will pay the winger £25,000 more than Christian Eriksen, £20,000 more than Toby Alderweireld and almost double Dele Alli’s wage of £55,000 (figures from Spotrac leaves me utterly confused, albeit quite entertained as the nonsense that gets spouted.
I think some in media land may have opened the secret sauce a little bit early on Wednesday in their desperation to tap into the rumour mill, but it made me smile anyway.
