Tottenham; Whisper It – Very Quietly!

|

The 18/19 season is at the half-way mark and the table is looking …. nice! It’s difficult to understand how Spurs arrived at their position when today’s table is compared to five weeks ago. But then, it is football.

Our best start to any PL season now sees us in second place. Spurs, with fifteen wins, have won more games than any other team apart from Pool (sixteen). And we remain the only club not to draw a game, which is a feat in itself. As it currently stands, Pool and Spurs are the current in-form clubs.

Santa is, it seems, is a Spurs supporter and keeps ensuring we have a happy Xmas. The only negative appears to be our goal difference which could be vital by the end of the season. However, eleven goals in two games looks like we are starting to address that issue.

Manchester City have lost three of their last four games. How will this impact on their confidence? If they take to the park thinking ‘We don’t want to lose another game’ they could be in big trouble. The mental pressure is on.

If we look at the stats from the Arsenal and Chelsea games, the difficulty of overcoming defensive-minded teams is apparent. Arsenal had plenty of possession but few shots on goal for their draw. It was the same for Chelsea despite managing to win by one goal, albeit against a stronger team than Arsenal faced. So far, we have fared extremely well against the clubs beneath us.

So, where will it all go from here? Liverpool play Arsenal and City very soon. Will Pool hit a slump? Will City find their winning ways? Will Spurs continue their winning streak? What will the table look like by the end of January? Will Sonny Boy overtake Our Harry in the race for the GB!! Providing we keep winning our games it’s going to be interesting.

We have played more away games than home games. If we move to our new stadium relatively soon we will still have quite a few home games left to play. What effect will that have? Given that Spurs play the same way (virtually) everywhere they play the game I imagine the only difference will be the vocal intensity of our supporters …. which is a good thing.

Gone are the days when, at this stage of the season, we would start battling with three or four other clubs for our dream finish …. a Europa League spot. Remember that?

One thing is for sure; it’s been a long time since Tottenham supporters had a boring season. That’s entertainment! Whisper it quietly …. can we win our first PL title?!
