According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are ‘watching’ Lucas Connell and could have some luck in procuring his signature as Bolton Wanderers ‘may be pressed to sell’ due to their spiralling financial situation. The highly-rated defensive-midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, so Bolton are looking to cash in on Connell now rather than risk losing him for nothing.
The 17-year-old recently made his debut for Bolton, coming off the bench against Walsall in the FA Cup third round (January 5) and starting against Bristol City in the FA Cup fourth round (January 25) – he picked up 83 minutes in Friday’s 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate. Connell made his Championship debut on Tuesday against Reading, picking up 72 minutes in a 1-1 draw.
Tottenham have competition for his signature, with Southampton, Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion all credited with an interest. Spurs need a midfielder after selling Mousa Dembele to Guangzhou R&F, but Connell is too young and inexperienced to come straight into the side. He’s only just made his debut for Bolton, so he’d be one for the future.
Spurs might even look to sign him and loan him back to the Trotters for the remainder of the campaign, just so he can get some valuable first-team minutes.
