Tottenham without six players ahead of Ludogorets clash

|

Tottenham have confirmed they will be without six players ahead of Thursday evening’s Europa League meeting with FC Ludogorets – Paulo Gazzaniga (ineligible), Sergio Reguilon (illness), Joe Rodon (ineligible), Serge Aurier (knock), Gedson Fernandes (ineligible), Erik Lamela (knock).

What’s the latest on Gazzaniga?

The 28-year-old is ineligible to feature against Ludogorets as he was left out of our Europa League squad. Hugo Lloris, Joe Hart, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman all made the cut, but Gazzaniga was left out. His future at Tottenham is uncertain as he’s third in the pecking order and hasn’t made an appearance since March.

What’s the latest on Reguilon?

The 23-year-old has been ruled out with illness by Jose Mourinho who said: “Reguilon is ill, but not the COVID situation, not at all, just ill.” Reguilon has made seven appearances in all competitions this season, last featuring in our 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, but he’ll have to be replaced by Ben Davies.

What’s the latest on Rodon?

The 23-year-old is ineligible to feature against Ludogorets as he was left out of our Europa League squad. Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Malachi Fagan-Walcott all made the cut, but Rodon was left out. He could be included in the second round of the Europa League if we progress from the group stages, however.

What’s the latest on Aurier?

The 27-year-old has been ruled out with a minor injury by Mourinho who said: “Aurier has a little problem, nothing important, but a problem he decided with the medical team that he didn’t want to risk.” Matt Doherty is likely to start at right-back as a result.

What’s the latest on Fernandes?

The 21-year-old is ineligible to feature against Ludogorets as he was left out of our Europa League squad. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele, Jamie Bowden and Harvey White all made the cut, but Fernandes was left out.

He’s only made one appearance in all competitions this season and may be sent back to Benfica due to the lack of playing time.

What’s the latest on Lamela?

The 28-year-old has been ruled out with a minor injury by Mourinho who said: “Lamela has a little problem for quite a few weeks and after the last match we decided it’s the moment to stop and have this week plus the two weeks of internationals to give him three weeks to recover fully.”

Lamela has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, last featuring in our win over Brighton, but he may not return until the end of November now.
