Tottenham: A Different Kind Of Season.

|

Suddenly we are a third of the way into this season. Doesn’t time fly. A quick glance at the table will show that we sit in fourth place and we’re not far behind the top three teams. A longer glance at the table will show something unusual!

Spurs are the only club not to draw a game so far. In previous years, points dropped against teams we should probably beat have cost us dearly. Supporters have pointed this out on numerous occasions. Obviously this applies to every team but, as it currently stands, Spurs are reaping the points reward by avoiding costly ‘drawn out’ affairs on the park.

City have drawn two, Pool have drawn three, Chelsea have drawn four, Arsenal have drawn three, and United have drawn two (and also lost four!). Only City have won more games (1) than Spurs.

So far, Spurs have managed to beat the teams that the other top clubs have drawn against. In the event that this trend continues Spurs could well finish in the top four …. no matter what our results are against the other top clubs. Strange, but true.

Another ‘strange’ thing about this season is the fact that our GD is not keeping up with our main rivals, despite having won as many games. That fact highlights how Spurs are doing it differently. We all know that Spurs have not been firing on all cylinders. The balance of the team has not been quite right. There are lots of reasons for this and we all know what they are. The outcome is that we are grinding out results and winning matches by the odd goal instead of blowing teams away. But we are winning! And if we can maintain our position as we turn into the new year our season could become even more interesting …. assuming we will have a full and fit squad.

It’s almost a contradiction in terms but, the more games we don’t draw, the more games we can afford to lose!

On a slightly different note, it’s very sad to see Jose having such a terrible season so far. Oh, hang on a minute …. no it’s not!

We have two big games coming up against Chelsea and Arsenal. Realistically we can afford to lose one if we win the other. Winning both would be rather nice …. and quite possible. Or even two draws wouldn’t be a disaster!!
