Tottenham enter race with Liverpool for £34.8m Serie A playmaker

|

Italian newspaper Leggo are reporting that we are interested in signing AC Milan playmaker Suso.

The former Liverpool player has improved markedly since his last spell in England, and it is believed that we would have to compete with the Reds to sign the Spaniard in the summer.

In what seems a highly unlikely story, Leggo reporter Luca Uccello says we are so keen to beat our rivals to the 24 year old’s signature, we could pay above the midfielder’s release clause.

Suso’s current buyout fee is €40m (£34.8m), and there seems very little point in offering more than the clause as Liverpool could still talk to the player if they matched the buyout number.

Whether he would even be worth that amount would be debatable as well. The Spanish international has had a decent season with 8 goals and 12 assists in 44 games, but he would hardly be a guaranteed starter if he joined us.

He would have to compete with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele and Erik Lamela for a place in the team, and I can’t see Poch prioritising another signing in this position currently.
