Tottenham chase £35m “great leader” who tackles more than Sissoko – Report

|

According to an update from football.london journalist Alasdair Gold in a recent Q&A [14:42], Spurs are ‘weighing up‘ a move for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – as the player apparently fits our transfer profile of a relative youngster who can be ‘developed‘.

Højbjerg, who has started 27 Premier League games for the Saints this campaign, becoming a key figure at St Mary’s, is reportedly seen as a realistic target for Spurs who ‘ticks so many boxes‘ with his leadership qualities and potentially cheap price tag.

Should Spurs weigh up a £35 million bid for Hojbjerg?

Yes, a leader and potential bargain

No, we have enough central midfielders

Indeed, according to the reporter, given he only has one year left on his current Southampton deal, it’s doubtful he will come with a ‘crazy‘ price tag despite his consistent form on the south coast.

Described as a ‘great leader‘ by teammate Angus Gunn last season, Hojbjerg appears to possess an abundance of qualities that we value in a transfer target – with the 24-year-old also admitting that he wants to move on to a higher level and that Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side are currently aware of his stance.

According to WhoScored, Hojbjerg has made more tackles this season than any Spurs midfielder – with only Serge Aurier and Japhent Tanganga exceeding his 2.4 per game average.

The Dane has also managed a superior number of interceptions over the entirety of the Lilywhites’ current midfield crop, potentially highlighting the fact he would be a worthy addition.

A past report from Sky Sports indicated that Southampton could value the midfielder at around £35 million, but it’s unclear whether chairman Daniel Levy will green light such a move given the recent pandemic.
