The Long Reaching Effects Of Lucas’ Last Few Seconds Winner

Writer: Graham Wood

The majority of us long suffering Spurs fans are still likely basking in the sunshine of last Wednesday’s amazing Champion League win. With that win came a collective forgiveness of the errors of the last few weeks.

However, the effects are more far reaching than most have even thought about.

We have reached the Champions League finale under conditions that most teams would have wilted under. Thanks to a great manager who re-thought his game plan when all seemed lost, a team that simply would not buckle under relentless pressure and bit part players who came good when needed most.

Lastly, we did this without the services of Europe’s most feared striker, our own Harry Kane.

Our threadbare squad defied the odds in game after game. It is a feat that probably will never be replicated in our lifetimes. We proved that throwing millions into buying success does not always pay off.

The long term benefits are: Tottenham will now be in a position to sign the type of talent we need to remain a winner. Already we can see that players who were somewhat reluctant to join our fold are now changing their minds.

None of the so called European heavyweights are in this final, Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona, Benfica, & Bayern Munich all fell by the wayside. Tottenham can now rightly claim that they (and Liverpool) are now to be considered in that elite group of European giants.

With a magnificent stadium which any elite team would be proud to play in we are poised for a long and memorable future.
