“That Is Why We Love Football” – A Humdinger Of A Game Has To Leave You Believing In Poch Surely

|

Well that was a night that football was created for wasn’t it as Tottenham Hotspur took a historic victory over Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Having gone into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium with a narrow 1-0 lead courtesy of a Son Heung-Min winner at our new White Hart Lane Stadium, most people expected last night’s match to be a rollercoaster of some sort but I think few would’ve expected the kind of game both sides served up.

4-3 to Pep Guardiola’s side on the night, a Sonny brace and a Fernando Llorente effort may have seen us lose but as the video assistant referee system ruled out Raheem Sterling’s hattrick late on, away goals and aggregate did for us as we ruined their quadruple dreams and gave ourselves a semi-final dream against Ajax of our own.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle an amazed, slightly gushing Pochettino probably spoke for us all.

“It was unbelievable – the way it finished. I am so happy, so proud. My players are heroes to be here. In a moment many things happened in your head, the disappointment was massive but they changed the decision. That is why we love football. Today we showed great character and great personality it was an unbelievable game.”

Have we all calmed down yet?
