Spurs Trigger Contract Option On Key Man As Expected

|

With most eyes on Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Tranmere Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday evening, the eagled-eyed fan would’ve noticed that much earlier in the day Spurs confirmed the recent speculation that suggested we would use our 12 month option on centre-half Toby Alderweireld.

As of yet, no new deal has been arranged the speculation surrounding his future will continue and although he’s now under contract until 2020, using the option does mean we could lose him this coming summer for only £25million given that the release fee now comes into play.

The release fee is time limited and Sky Sports claim that it expires at least 14 days prior to the end of the summer 2019 transfer window closing.

Each battle as it comes though.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino had already described using the option as an ‘obvious’ decision for the club to make, but plenty will now be hoping a new deal is speedily sorted to put this one to bed properly.

Sky went on to claim that we did make him available last summer for £25million but no club made a formal approach, despite the endless Manchester United speculation.
