Spurs remain interested in signing Dutch defender

|

Footballinsider, have reported that Spurs are still keen on bringing in Stefan de Vrij, after failing to secure a deal for the defender, last summer.

Antonio Conte was reportedly keen on bringing in the Dutchman however a deal could not be struck, which meant Spurs moved for Clement Lenglet instead.

De Vrij has made 132 appearances for Inter, since moving on a free from Lazio, back in 2018. He also of course knows Spurs manager Antonio Conte very well, as he was a key cog in Conte’s Inter Milan machine that steamed to a Serie A title, back in 2021.

The defender’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal with the Italian giants – meaning Spurs may be able to bag themselves a bargain in January.

The 30-year-old is currently valued at €20.00m by Transfermarkt, however Spurs will likely be able to secure the Dutchman for a lower fee due to his contract situation and the fact Inter are still suffering from financial issues.

Would you sign Stefan de Vrij?

YES

NO

However, the Lilywhites may have to move quickly for De Vrij as other potential suitors – in the name of Newcastle – may look to pounce for the defender.

De Vrij, who was voted Serie A best defender in the 19/20 season – has struggled for form so far this season, alongside his Inter side who are currently floundering in 7th place.

Nevertheless, Conte is undoubtedly no stranger in recruiting experienced players, as shown by the club’s acquisition of 33-year-old Ivan Perisic, in the summer. Meaning it would be no surprise to see the Dutch international arrive in North London, come January.

VS has become far too fragmented because there are too many articles for us to keep us engaged with them all. I understand that omarhussein and mitcheltapner are paid per article, and thus are with incentives to write too many articles for us to engage, but in the long run too many articles are self defeating as they have the effect of separating the community rather than building it.

Who wants to write a comment when it is unlikely that others will bother coming onto the thread?

I fear this style into which VS has fallen will kill the site so this community will no longer exist, and omarhussein and mitcheltapner will have to find other sources of work.

There are no winners in this.

The odds are that the De Vrij fellow will sign with us seems rather distant at the moment, so I cannot find much enthusiasm to find out much about him.

But so long, it’s been good to know you–in the words of Woody Guthie–seems a likely direction for the future of this site if it continues as it has been recently. Too many threads mean that almost non of them will be read by a critical mass of commenters.

In the mean time: Why no thread on Uncle Joe of ENIC fading from an active role with THFC in favor of two solicitors who live in the Bahamas who are now active in running the club? Yeh, I know, that too would be one more thread too many.
