Spurs monitoring contract situation of potential Lloris successor

|

With Hugo Lloris having turned 36 earlier this week, it is only natural that Tottenham Hotspur’s attentions are directed towards a long-term successor for their French captain in between the sticks.

Several names have been touted and tossed about for this upcoming vacancy over the past few months, and one name that has frequently popped up among those contenders is Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The Washington native is out of contract in 18 months, and naturally, the big boys tend to circle like vultures around a dead elephant whenever the contract of a high-profile employee of a club in the lower echelons of the table starts to run down.

Indeed, the Daily Mail has revealed that a race has emerged for the North Easterner’s signature in January between Spurs, Chelsea, and Manchester United amid a sort of contract standoff between Pickford and his employers.

Now the confusing thing here is that it was widely believed that Pickford would sign a new five-year deal before he jetted off to Qatar with England last month, but Pickford still has not signed the deal and what we’ve been left with is an awkward silence between the two parties.

The Everton board is therefore worried that the shot-stopper has had second thoughts about the whole thing, and with Pickford’s contract situation up in the air, it is said that United, Spurs, and Chelsea are hoping to pick him up on a discounted fee either next month or in the summer.
